Everyone gets social security, even Elon Musk. Not everyone gets their debt cancelled. Everyone gets free public education. Since money doesn’t matter let’s just make everyone millionaires. No limit soldier!
Ideally not ... because we can, and should, go back and address root causes as well. My suggestion: All student loans are backed by the federal government, are interest-free, and have payments capped at 5% of a person's AGI. Do that, and I'd even be fine with keeping the "cannot be discharged through bankruptcy" provision.
Funny how plenty of other countries manage to do the things that you insist will ruin the economy, and yet their economies are just fine.
They’re on borrowed time and they don’t have the military budget we have. We rebuilt Europe FFS. We’ve been the world’s security force for 80 years now.
Why do you beat around the bush like this instead of being real and just telling everyone that you severely dislike the thought of helping other people because you have a trust fund
Don't forget the "America can't have nice things because the lazy minorities will ruin it" angle, that always comes up sooner or later.
So in other words, despite having offered robust social services for decades and continuing to prosper, their economies are sure to collapse any minute now?
There's a point where trying to explain how to empathize with other human beings isn't something easily done. Seriously, how do you present something to someone who doesn't understand why not saddling the next generation with ruinous debt is a good idea? How do you explain that if we can send $800 billion to the military industrial complex every year (and that doesn't include what isn't accounted) without so much as a *peep* from congress, or the banks, surely we can invest in education, homes, infrastructure, social programs so that the least of us don't die from cold or hunger. How do you explain why that's good and doesn't require a long, convoluted justification? It's just good, and it's something we should do if we desire the people of the US should grow healthier, and happier. "Kids shouldn't die," and "old people shouldn't live alone and suffer in silence." What more incentive is needed?
His trust fund allows him to be a middle-aged sandwich artist and live comfortably. But yeah, it's the people seeking out educations that are the problem.
Except you only pay in to social security up to $147,000 of your salary. Any salary you make above that is tax free! So billionaires get social security they pay little for while everyone else will likely pay in on their whole salary.
I have no idea what you mean by that. I mean, being a communist means there are laws, especially community laws, so surely you don't mean I'm against laws in general. Also, I'm sure you're aware that laws can be changed, especially unjust laws, so I don't know what you think would prevent people from changing a law that harms people. What is your goal on this one?
No, it’s not. And what the hell would you even know about it, trustfundbaby? No, not everyone is like you. Most people are descent human beings.
Not only that, but I don't care if someone's Republican or Democrat, or whatever if what they're pushing is inhumane policy. It's kind of a weird thing to toss my way on his part.
@Bill Carson is on record as saying that what Communism has done to humanity is worse than the Holocaust, so I'm guessing it stems from that.
One of the many reasons the ‘Social Security is going broke in 50 years, thus we must destroy it now and give all the money to Wall Street’ argument is so stupid. All Congress has to do is get rid of the cap and/or apply it to investment income and BAM, solvent for all time.
But if social security works, then people won't agree to privatize it. That's what they do, they defund as much of a social program as they can, show it failing when it obviously can't take care of the needs of people, and then privatize it. That's what's happening to Medicare right now.
I know what you typed. And that is what I responded to. If you don’t like that sort of response, perhaps you should … maybe … choose your words more carefully next time.
No taxation without representation is a slap in the face to everyone who was taxed without representation. Freeing slaves and letting people be born free is a slap in the face to everyone who lived their life as a slave. Votes for women was a slap in the face to everyone woman who lived their life without the vote. Ending conscription was a slap in the face to everyone who had previously been conscripted. Lowering taxes is a slap in the face to everyone who previously paid higher taxes. Free elementary school education was a slap in the face to every person who hadn't been able to go to elementary school, or every parent who had previously had to pay to send their child. Free high school education was a slap in the face to every person who hadn't been able to go to high school, or every parent who had previously had to pay to send their child. Public fire departments are a slap in the face to everyone whose house burned down because they didn't sign up for private fire coverage. Building the US interstate road network was a slap in the face to everyone who worked hard to travel that distance. Public sanitation systems were a slap in the face to everyone who had previously got sick from bad sanitation.
Not directly. Unless you are including indirect benefits, in which case you also get to enjoy the benefits of a society where tens of millions of people are now being taxed less.
So if I borrow money from you and only pay a fraction of that money back then the government comes along and cancels the rest of my debt to you, you’re fine with that?
No, they don't. Freeing enslaved people didn't benefit anyone who hadn't been enslaved. Ending the draft only benefited men. Women's suffrage only benefited women. The Interstate highway system only benefits people who travel by vehicle ... you literally aren't all0wed to walk or ride a bike on them. Unless, of course, you want to get into the fact that all of these things have wide-reaching societal benefits that stretch beyond the people most immediately impacted. In which case, congratulations on starting to get the point.
The thirteenth amendment means nobody can be enslaved. Nobody. Women’s suffrage means women are added to the electorate which benefits society as a whole. It directly affects all of our mothers. Ending the draft means nobody can be drafted. The interstate highway system benefits all of us in case we are invaded because it’s a military project.
Congratulations. You have successfully reached the conclusion that the societal benefits of a policy can extend beyond the people most directly impacted by that policy.
A generation not being saddled with inescapable debt benefits society as a whole. People having more disposable income to put into the economy benefits society as a whole. Education being easier to access benefits society as a whole.
