Planned parenthood is comissioning 37 foot RV medical centers to provide healthcare for women - including abortion services.

They will be roaming just outside the borders of states that are trying to reenact the Handmaid's Tale.

Wonder if Greg Abbott will order the Texas Rangers to patrol the border with New Mexico, detain any woman who looks like she might be of childbearing age, and force her to take a pregnancy test ...

The problem is that many of the most theocratic, oppressive states are bordered by states with the exact same policies. If you're in Alabama or Mississippi, there is no bordering state that isn't just as determined to declare your uterus to be public property.

However, this might help women in, say, eastern North and South Dakota, who are close to the Minnesota border but not close to any population center large enough to have a clinic (e.g. Fargo/Moorhead).

TLDR: https://www.reddit.com/r/WhitePeopl...oint_its_safe_to_say_they_hate_women/ir2ltqu/ (except for this part: "Please fellow left leaning folks, don't fall for the same sensationalized unsourced bullshit that folks on the right have been falling for. If something tickles your confirmation bias, be extra suspicious. We are better than this." There's a whole lot of evidence lefty folks are not, in fact, better than this, particularly on Twitter.)

Actually, the TLDR version is that the question is optional and has been on the form for 20 years. That, however, does not mean the question should not be there, nor does it mean the "optional" part may be removed in the post RvW world.

Alito upset that allowing states to ban a life saving medical procedure has put the lives of people on the Supreme Court at risk.
Just want to point out that more than one doctor has been murdered for providing reproductive health care for women. Can't think of any members of SCOTUS who've been killed because of how they ruled on a case. It doesn't seem like that's ever happened.

The Respect for Marriage Act passed the House, it's already passed the Senate. Biden is going to sign it shortly.

It doesn't guarantee gay marriage in every state, but it does guarantee that every state must recognize all marriages from any state.

This shouldn't be necessary, as the Constitution already states this in Art IV, Sec 1, the Full Faith and Credit Act.

But we already know that the GOP doesn't give a shit about the Constitution, so every bit helps.

It's also an interesting look into the Overton window - even among Republicans there is majority support for gay marriage and strong support for interracial marriage. The only group that doesn't have majority support in Pew's 2021 poll was Evangelical Christians, who are of course absolutely horrible human beings.

37 Republicans voted to move this bill across the line. Not a large number to be sure, but one of the few bills to get any portion of Republican support at all.

Unfortunately this required a concession - no group can lose it's tax benefit status for failing to recognize same sex marriages. Churches of course have to be protected in their ability to discriminate.

    Now off to Biden's desk.

It going to be a hodgepodge set of rules until Congress grows a pair and sets a reasonable limit on abortions. That require they left to admit that should be a limit, which they won’t do.

It also requires the Right to enshrine access, which it won't because the Right thinks it's always wrong. If they say otherwise, it's a tactic until they can chip-chip away at it.

    Hence, why we're here.

But I'm glad to see Mister States Rights is now arguing FOR Federal limits.

To be honest, no,there shouldn't be limits

Because the fact of the matter is no one who wants not to be pregnant takes weeks or months to figure that out. 91% of abortions happen during the first trimester and the majority of the ones between week 13 and 28 are medial emergencies. The "elective abortions there are ones who for whatever reason couldn't get one sooner.

The hoops and hurdles to get an abortion after 30 weeks are so cumbersome that it's not worth anyone's time to discuss elective abortions in that instance and at that point, it's usually just a regular ol labor to remove the usually dead or dying fetus.

The only two people whose opinion should matter about when a pregnancy should end is the pregnant person and their medical provider, whether that's at six weeks or two days before the dude date.

    Period.

Limits were a compromise that the right was never going to respect

Just like their "concern" for trans children.

Oh yeah, Oklahoma is trying to tran transition for anyone under 26, BTW, didja know that?

    No more compromise.

You’re welcome to that opinion and that attitude, but don’t be surprised if people who disagree see that and throw their hands and say, “oh well, we tried to have meaningful legislation, but the other side doesn’t want to compromise.”
ETA: What happens when second amendment advocates have the same argument with the same attitude?

also... access to healthcare is a higher quality of right (i.e."endowed by the creator") than the amendment permitting regulated militias.

I’m good with reciprocity among the states. If someone lives in a state like California that allows abortions past 16 weeks and they want to travel to a state that doesn’t allow that then that state should honor the California law, but the same goes for concealed carry permits. I doubt liberals would be willing to take that deal.
