Paramount supposedly has another series in development, Star Trek: Dominion Wars.

    Linky

According to the article, it will happen after the events of DS9.

I would take that, and Legacy over Section 31 and Starfleet Academy.

Addendum to that, I will ONLY take Section 31 with Michelle Yeoh as the star.
I don't think they can get her anymore.

Should definitely open up with a flashback to a newly CGI'd final battle of the Dominion War.

So a sequel to DS9, and a prequel to Nemesis, Lower Decks, and Prodigy? A timeframe that appears to rule out live action appearances from old characters without a good deal of CGI de-aging? Meh.

There's a whole lot of story in the DS9 relaunch books. I don't care if they de-age existing actors as CGI or recast them. But, there is story there to tell.

And I loved the DS9 relaunch books.

I'm just not sold on the need to revisit that particular era in live action when there are so many other possibilities.

The Dominion War got pretty big; they can avoid DS9 entirely.
Once the Dominion got through the wormhole, they cloned Jem'Hadar like a motherfucker, and built shipyards like a motherfucker.
They can have a whole new cast on another ship or station, and go to a zillion other worlds without bumping into DS9 characters.

that's the thing though, isn't it? I mean, just last night - a typical Thursday after watching Picard. Now I have to find some other show to watch and this is when I generally bounce around reruns of Star Trek, Star Wars, or Stargate.

I don't care what is is or what form. just give me something to watch while I waste my life away sitting in front of a television.

As for de-aging, Nana Vistor is still looking fine.

If they’re going to to dis can we please drop the mystery box template? Just do what DS9 and Enterprise did, two-three episode story arcs mixed in with stand alone episodes. You can even have a season long arc, just no more mystery boxes.

I actually would be most interested in seeing things from the non-Federation/non-Starfleet perspective.

Let's follow some stuff on Cardassia. Or how the Klingons or Romulans were reacting. Or back on Earth and other places that got hit in the Federation. Like didn't Betazed get wriggedy-wriggedy wreckt? Seeing/hearing about that sort of stuff might be cool. Or even some Founders/Vorta/Jem'Hadar main characters.

As to established DS9 characters...I dunno. There's little to no chance that Avery Brooks would come back for the Return of the Sisko. I am mixed on whether I would be OK with them recasting the part in some sort of rebirth of him. I feel like every main Trek captain has gotten some love of late besides him and Archer.

I would say Odo's a no-go. But maybe they will recast him too.

Colm Meaney has a lot of recent acting going on, according to imdb. I don't really have much interest in revisiting Ezri, or Bashir.

    I'd like to see Garak.

    Time'll tell.

Archer gets some love in DSC and LD.
The obvious character to bring back would be Worf.

Or Quark. Any war-weary crew no matter if Klingon, Fed or Romulan putting in at DS9 is gonna hit the bar.

Yeah, whoever heard of an Oscar winner doing a streaming TV series? Well, besides Kevin Spacey, Harrison Ford, Jane Fonda, Kevin Kostner, and so on.

It all depends upon what her contract says. If she's already contractually obligated to do the series then it'll probably be a nasty fight to break it. But you know, I think that folks at Paramount might just really want her to do the show and will happily throw fucktons of money at her. Think about it: Has there ever been a genre TV show where the lead was an Oscar winner? Maybe some detective stuff, besides the Westerns that Ford and Costner are doing, but that's it.

So, you've got a show with the first Asian woman to win Best Actress in the lead, it's science fiction, and it's Star Trek. Not the original "woke" TV show (that honor probably goes to "The Twilight Zone"), but holy shit does that fit in with Roddenberry's vision of the future or what? Her Oscar gives her the stamp of legitimacy in the minds of many in terms of "serious actor" so some of that will rub off on the show as well (not to mention the whole genre). I'm not saying it'll happen, I'm just saying that don't think because she won an Oscar that it's dead.

I'd like to see some of the DS9 vets in important, non-cameo roles, but I'm pretty skeptical about this report.

They would have to be VERY skilled to do a show that amounts to a DS9 followup with basically no one from that cast and the deaging thing is only for small bursts. OTOH, if you DID use some of the veterans then you have to postulate at least 20 years elapsed and tell stories that fit that scenario.

Ben coming back actually works as a jumping off reason to "get the band back together" but it strikes me as a whole different story than the "the devastating aftermath of the war" sort of description.

I say do the Shaw series and integrate some of the Ds9 gang into whatever story they are telling. Easy enough to visit Bajor for some reason and interact with Kira, or to run across Julian out there working in the same doctors org as Crusher was (maybe even founded it?) or key Cardassians. Not saying you CAN'T do a DS9 legacy series that impresses me, but the odds are against you because the original was so very good.

the more I think about it, that "Legacy" idea (centered on Shaw's Titan) doing a very integrated DS9 follow-up story would be a helluva idea. I'm sure Shaw encountering a former Starfleet Captain who's now at least a demi-god would be a damned fine scene.

I'd prefer Dawn of the Attack Tribbles, personally. I mean, since fandom has taken to pointing at everything that moves and shouting "spinoff!" after Trek supply took a hit and anxieties over the franchise's future have come to the fore. Coping mechanism?

As a DS9 fan, I can think of nothing worse than a direct follow-up to the war under the guidance of these writers. It's one thing to lift elements from DS9 for Picard's latest mystery box (which I am enjoying, on the whole), but this is something else entirely. Also, it smells like total BS.

Let's just settle down and see if anything else gets cut (or announced - no official word on SNW S3) before clamoring for more.

Don't have to de-age the actors if you just claim they fell into a temporal disturbance offscreen :async:

But I don't think Brooks is coming back to acting ever. And I think it should go without saying that there's plenty of room to tell stories that don't include any DS9 characters apart from maybe a file photograph or a voice over.

    This.

Brooks boarded the crazy train a long time ago and bought a one-way ticket to cuckoo bananas land.

But he's still cool as fuck.

And he ain't going back to acting.

Yeah, it's bad sport to announce a particular spinoff right now if much of the drama from the next few episodes comes from not knowing if that character's gonna survive.

Dominion used be the name of a grocery chain here in Canada, so whenever I hear "Dominion War" I always think of Dominion slugging it out with Loblaws (another grocery chain).

If Trek revisits the Founders , which I think that's something they SHOULDN'T do ever again , casting another actor as Odo would be in very poor & bad taste.

Sadly , if people don't know or forgot : Rene Auberjonois passed away.
