Well this African fellow is clearly over reacting. The outbreak is in California. That's where we need a travel ban. Where is Governor Brown's measles czar?
Nothing the Land Of Dead Princes Who Left You Eleventeen Billionty Dollars has anything to say has any merit whatsoever. And if they don't like that characterization of their continent, fucking tough. They can clean that shit up, and then they can be taken seriously.
Mandatory here in Georgia! When we move over a decade ago our kids could not pass "GO" and collect 200 dollars until we got them any shots we were behind on or were required in Georgia but not other places. Zero tolerance - if you don't want to get your kids the vaccinations, home school them.
While we're on the subject, I assume folks have heard what Rand Paul has to say: And Chris Christie has weighed (no pun intended) in on the subject: To show that not all Republicans are complete idiots, Ben Carson has sense enough to say that parents should vaccinate. And I feel compelled to point out that in an era when draining a sick person of blood was considered "medicine," some of our most important Founding Fathers thought that vaccines were a necessity.
It is actually in 16 states now and it was brought to the US by a tourist from the Philippines. The main reason it hasn't been contained is because of anti-vaxxer parents who tend to be wealthier and white. This has caused huge problems for parents with children with compromised immune systems who cannot be vaccinated (such as children with cancer). Anti-vaxxers really are murderous scum who's ignorance is killing children.
This is the most common sense thing possible yet you just know Republicans hate it claiming it is "anti-freedom" to have a public health law which requires vaccinations and even provides them free of charge. Nothing would do more to help public good but for years now Republicans have been raging against vaccinations. Do you remember in 2012 when Rick Perry was booed because he dared to sign a law which included the HPV vaccine among the mandatory childhood shots? That could virtually eliminate cervical cancer yet the religious right was dead set against it. We have shot stains like Rand Paul and Sarah Palin campaigning against vaccination claiming public health laws restrict religious freedom.
I'm against forcing anyone to accept medical treatment they don't want. However, I am very much for schools, businesses, etc. making it mandatory for attendance there.
It involves putting a substance into someone's body. Consent is kind of important no matter what way you want to split hairs.
That's essentially my position, but unfortunately, it still leaves a significant risk. We can say no to school attendance without proof of immunization, but how do you expect businesses to screen for such things? And what about kids at the playground, or people waiting to take the bus, etc.? We can restrict driving on public streets to people who prove to the state that they are capable of safely operating a vehicle. Perhaps we should restrict access to public streets altogether when it comes to immunization? Not sure, seems extreme, but the negative externalities for not vaccinating are also pretty extreme.
Okay. But here's a consent issue - a child can't legally consent, so these idiot parents are consenting for them. If you asked the kid whether they'd prefer a moment of pain and maybe a slight fever to being sick for a week and possibly having lifelong complications (up to and including death), most kids would have more sense than these idiot parents. Maybe that's a route worth exploring.
About the same as them saying "no firearms allowed" on the door. No, you can't 100 percent keep it from happening, but I support their efforts to do so if they want to have such a rule. "Papers please..." Children not being able to legally consent to medical treatment is exactly why parents are held responsible for their children and are punished or otherwise held liable if something happens to their kid, or because of their kid, due to their negligence. Sure, kids might consent to getting a shot, but they wouldn't have the capacity to really understand what it was they were consenting to, as with basically anything else. So, no, I'm not for trying to circumvent parental consent, due to the implications of the precedent being set by such an action. The closest I would come to anything draconian would be if the kid gets sick from one of these diseases (especially if they die from it) and they opted not to get a vaccination, they should be charged with some form of child abuse. Which is essentially how I feel about parents who are all into the faith healing thing and let their kids die from something that would have been easily treatable.
Agreed. And in terms of herd immunity, we may see more cases like this one: http://www.cnn.com/2015/01/29/health/california-boy-vaccine-school/
I definitely agree with schools requiring immunization for attendance there. If anti-vaxxers want to stick it out, let 'em home school their kid.
That is not good enough. The disease carriers will still go out in public and spread their disease. In this state we already make private schools meet all public school standards including vaccinations but the big hole is with home schoolers. Home scholes should also have to meet the same standards.
Well that Facebook post was wrong. N-O is spelled K-N-O-W. And Myth-Busters proved Obama never let sick birds-of-prey into amusement parks.
After the MAGA base spread covid like wildfire, I never want to fucking hear "they spread disease" about minorities the rest of my fucking life.
Also, it seems that Mississippi has since reversed their stance on religious exemptions https://msdh.ms.gov/page/23,25673,341.html I'm genuinely more surprised that it took till 2023 to pass this there, all things considered.
Also anti-war, anti-corporation champions of free speech. Now their kids are censorious, warmongering dick-riders for big pharma. Pepperidge Farm indeed.
