Well, ok. I didn't pour the concrete or anything. But I tore down the deck and built the stairs with my own two hands !
Very attractive! The few backyard construction projects I've done continue to please me every time I look at them. You'll get a lot of pleasure from this, and well earned smug.
It was more than just ugly before. It was so rotten in spots that I was scared my little brown dog would just fall through and it was completely infested with carpenter ants.
I think I'm going to use this thread to keep track of all my home projects. Today's adventure...installing a ceiling fan. Who would have guessed such a tiny fan would be such a little cocksucking assmonkey? That was way harder than it needed to be, I reckon.
Last fall I dug up some hideous bushes and about a foot of rock and roots. Just now got it filled with sand. Next up: brick patio!
I think I posted these somewhere else...can't remember. Finally got the tree removed. Lots of work, but by doing all the breaking down/removal and only paying someone to cut the remaining tree down, I ended up getting some extra $ from the insurance company. Enough for new gutters, basement floors, and maybe a new garage door.
Yeah, cause it damaged my property when half of it it fell. I mean, they paid out for all kinds of stuff from the storm, including new patio furniture, fire pit, gutters, mailbox, etc. I was pretty shocked cause the tree basically just fell up against the house...not really on top of it. But even after my $1500 deductible, I still got almost $3200, $1800 of which was just for the tree itself.
Cool. Now tell me about this new fire pit. Is it the normal just sit around the fire sort of fire pit or the type where you can roast meats over an open fire? Inquiring minds want to know.
I don't understand the winking smiley here. Definitely not replacing the fire pit. A friend brought it over for a party and then refused to take it back. I'm sure she was trying to be nice, but I actually never wanted one (just another place for bugs to live, imo). But the tree smashed it so insurance gave me extra $.
Nice! You have quite a knack for home improvement. What kind of mulch is that in the Sept. 17 pics? Is that redwood or cedar? A guy I work with told me that rubber mulch is good here in the south because wood mulch holds a lot of moisture and attracts roaches & other bugs.
I really wanted rubber mulch but it was like $7 a bag and we needed a lot. Not sure what kind we got, but it was super cheap. I think $1.99 a bag from the gas station.
yes the rubber is expensive but in the long run it's worth it - it doesn't break down as fast (lose it's effectiveness) but again this is really dependent on weather/climate conditions.
My project for this weekend (in addition to digging up the soil to plant wildflowers & sunflowers) is putting up a battery powered light on my garage to illuminate the area where we park because my porch light doesn't reach that far. Oh and using a Turtle Wax kit to clean my headlight lenses on my 2009 VW Beetle.
