My first live action movie "Playbill" will debut March 4 in Boise. It's a short musical comedy, and yes, I do sing and dance. The rest of the story is that the movie is about a community theater group who's ambition exceeds their ability. It'll make you laugh, it'll make you cringe, it'll make you go "WTAF"? It's gonna be interesting to see the finished product. When I think about what kind of reception it will get, I'm reminded that Orson Welles said his definition of success was "not having things thrown at me."
That ain’t the real clip. That was my response to ff’s observation that going against Picard’s season opener might be a problem.
I was told that the goal was to get the movie onto the independent film festival circuit. "Playbill" has gone 3 for 3 at the IndieX Film Festival in Los Angeles, and it brought home awards in Comedy, Best Ensemble and Best Original Song, "Notice Me or Not". We'll see if that's a good sign.
*BUMP* "Playbill" debuted to positive reviews in Boise on Saturday. It was nominated at the Couch Festival in Toronto for "Best Comedy" "Best Director" and "Best Cast". We got the prize for "Best Comedy" The plan is to submit it to about 10 more festivals, including Robert Redford's Sundance Festival in Utah. Each festival has a screening committee to weed out the garbage and reduce the number of entrants to a manageable number for the juries to consider, so there's no guarantee that it will make the cut at any of them, but it will be fun to see what happens.
@Spaceturkey It was not entered at TIFF. The Couch Festival is separate. According to their website Couch will have a free showing tonight (June 278) at The Junction Lounge 48 Cawthra Avenue 9pm to 10:30pm. Admission is free and attendees get to vote on The Audience Choice Award. Tickets available here. Deciding which festival to submit to is a job for the producers. I just got to be in it. ETA: I can't tell from the website if "Playbill" will be shown our not
damn... wish I'd caught this as that's bike distance and I have a friend nearby. ah well, bookmarked for future reference. cheers!
@Spaceturkey It might be worth a phone call to The Junction. They may have a showing of some or all (or none) of the winners tomorrow.
