El Chup's post reminded me of our discussions from many months back, where we discussed a multi-quote system, and a like system. I had found several solutions, but the conversation died out for a while as we became busy with other things. The like system Chup mentions does exist, in almost exactly the form he proposes: https://xenforo.com/community/resources/post-ratings-taking-likes-to-the-next-level.410/ The downside? It's about $25 for the add-on. The multi-quote system is much more reasonable. It's only $5, and you can see it here: https://xenforo.com/community/resources/multi-quote-posts.2066/ So if you want it to happen, it can, but there are no reasonable free alternatives. These are it, and it would cost about $30.
Well, that's not so bad. Fuck, I can pay more than that trying to beat one level of Candy Crush. I think it's worth a shot to buy it and yes, enable all the options. Sokar and Muad aren't coming back, and the only person that'll be out to abuse it is Face; and I don't see anyone trying to align themselves with him. Also, Dayton's posts.
Usually blood and thunder. seriously, though, how it works is I contact the creator of the add-on, they tell me what Paypal address to send it to, and then it gets processed, and they send the file in return.
@gul - Barring some absurd technical issue, I can have both mods installed and functional inside of 20 minutes of downloading the files, again, assuming nothing goes wrong. If something goes wrong, and it's a simple fix from the software designer? Maybe a day or two, tops. I don't see any real problems, though, as both authors have indicated the add-ons work seamlessly with Xenforo 1.2 (our version).
Oh, yeah, we've had to use this method before to purchase addons. How it works is I notify the developer that we want to purchase their add-on. They give us their paypal address, and we send the money, at which point the developer sends a zip file of the add-on. If they sent it to the purchaser's address, that person emails me with the add-on that was sent to them, and then I install it.
Before moving this thread too, is this add on a go or not? if so, I'll leave it here to be a catch all for the installation process.
Okay, I see the new program has been installed...I couldn't find the buttons to like a post, though, unless I'm too wasted from the meet up tonight (O2C and Paladin are headed to the train as I type this). Still, thanks to John for getting this installed.
It will be a little while before everything is fully setup. The program had to inventory 1.5+ million posts.
Done. The system is now active. To use it, simply hover next to the reply button, and the options appear.
The options can be adjusted. We can have all of the neat little dealies you see there, or we can reduce it to specific set, like "Agree/Disagree" or "Like/Dislike". It's all up to the big guys and how they want it implemented. Your like/dislike rating can be seen on the main page in your mini-profile on the right hand side, or you can see it in your user profile, along with the ratings you've given and received. It works just like rep in that regard.
Here is the list of options: Note that certain options are "neutral". I have changed them from negative to neutral, so they don't create a negative rep, because they will. You now have positive/neutral/negative rep totals. THIS CAN BE CHANGED. I can disable negative totals. I can remove options in this list. It's pretty customizable. Only the likes add to your like count. The rest don't add to anything. They're more for commentary. You should also now see a ratings bar under your usernames. This shows your current number of likes and neutrals. It can be modified to show dislikes as well, or remove neutrals. Again, it's up to the big guys, and the sooner I know the sooner I can lock it all in place.
When I was neutral rep bombed by Face, my first thought was we'd better make everything positive or everything neutral. Nut then I thought, fuck it, it could be bad spelling (also neutral value).
Yeah, plus it's not like it has any negative effect. Still, if you ever feel he's going too far, I did make a filter to disable the rating system for specific posters. Not saying anyone should use it, just that the option is there.
Ok, two requests: Can we replace the 'dumb' icon from cardboard box to ? And we need one to convey the '!!!' response. Preferably an exclamation point icon, a single one or three (no more, and not two ).
