Spring training is almost done, we've seen what the teams look like, time to get this thread going with some predictions! American League Division Winners: Redsox, Tigers, Mariners Wild Card Teams: White Sox, Angels National League Division Winners: Nationals, Cardinals, Dodgers Wild Card Teams: Cubs, Padres League Pennants Redsox over Mariners Nationals over Dodgers World Series Champion Washington Nationals As you can see, I'm going with a mix of experience and raw talent. Teams that often make the post season are always likely to do so again, but a few less experienced teams have built up enough raw talent to push in to the upper echelon of performance. A lot of people will question my choice of Boston over Seattle, but let's be honest, Boston teams generally beat Seattle teams when it counts. Really looking forward to opening day, still need to get some ticket purchases going, but I'll definitely hit a few games during the season, and if the Sox do make the post season, I'll try to make it to at least one of those games, too.
I'm liking the top of the Yankees rotation this year--A healthy Tanaka and a healthy Pineda might be as good a 1-2 as there is right now--but not much else about the team. I think they'll do better than some people expect, but that doesn't say much.
Vegas gamblers agree, giving the Yankees the second best World Series odds of any AL East team, after the Redsox. I would love it for the Sox and Yankees to both manage to be competitive in the same year, the way it was back in the early 2000s. The 2003 and 2004 ALCS were classics.
http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/12568605/mlb-mlb-bring-back-bullpen-carts I will boycott baseball if these idiotic contraptions return to service. Fuck gimmicks, and this one doesn't even save time, so fuck it times two.
MAN, the Reds seem to be on the SUCK WAGON this year. BUT you never know. I'm keeping these predictions for the fall to see who was right. (Yahoo sports) .
So far, I'm the only one to stick my neck out and make predictions. Come on, Baseball Forge, let's get going with it -- who thinks I'm wrong? Who thinks the Redsox will beat the Nationals? Who thinks it's the Dodgers who win the pennant?
OK, I predict the Cubs and the Royals in the series, and the Cubs win. Hows that for a prediction? If I am right, I'm going to Vegas..
Believe it or not, twice as much money has been bet on the Cubs winning it all as has been bet on any other team. And it's not even long odds this year, so it's hard to understand the draw.
NL: Washington, St. Louis, Los Angeles division winners; Pittsburgh, Florida wild cards. Washington over LA in NLCS. AL: Boston, Detroit, LA Angels division winners; Toronto, Seattle wild cards. LA over Boston in ALCS Washington over LA in World Series
BACK IN THE DAY!! If you don;t know WHO they are, Give it up!! I'd say picking the Astro's would be a stretch then HUH?
That hardly counts, gul. That was just Bill Veeck being Bill Veeck, and didn't last for any length of time.
You didn't know JR Richard? Had a stroke and had to quit. Man if he would have stayed healthy he would have set a LOT of records.
I recognized Richard; I'm so used to geriatric Ryan, on the other hand, that he looked totally unfamiliar.
Richard was 80-45 the last 5 years of his career, his ERA was 2.68 and he averaged a strikeout an inning his entire career. After his stroke, he was never the same. Sad really.
Every time I look at one of those uniforms with colorful leggings that match the jersey, I find myself thinking it's from a game in Cuba. I don't mind an alternative jersey that's a solid color, but the pants need to be white or gray, and no other colors are acceptable. Pin stripes or piping are okay for certain teams, but these solid blues, yellows, reds, just look ridiculous.
I favor the pale blue away uniforms which were used in the '80s by the Cardinals, Braves, and Expos, among other teams.
NL: Division winners: Washington, St. Louis, LA. Wild Cards: Atlanta, Pittsburgh. NLCS: Nats over Dodgers. AL: Division winners: Baltimore, Cleveland, Seattle. Wild Cards: Anaheim, Chicago. ALCS: Mariners over Orioles WS: Nats over Mariners
This was a famous error card when i was a kid in grade school, I had them both at one time. Tops corrected the error (On the right) and the correct card is actually worth more than the error because they printed a lot more of the Blue Jays version. Wills was a decent player but only played 6 years as a pro. Sadly this was the highlight of his fame. Wills controversially replaced Lenny Randle at second base, which led to Randle's punching Rangers manager Frank Lucchesi in the face in 1977..
WHITE SOX?? Fuck that noise. They may easily be 4th in the division. Damn my eyes if I'm not feeling some genuine excitement this year after being relatively sure 2013 had killed my joy forever. Which, if the pattern holds, means the Jays will probably lose 90 games. Seriously, I think they can be right there deep into September if none of the key guys gets hurt, and while I've been sweating the Red Sox all spring, I have to remind myself that I still wasn't taking the Orioles seriously into early August last year and they won 96 games so - maybe they are the ones we both should worry about.
Just to kind of go against the universal pick of the Red Sox (and to be a homer) AL Division: Toronto, Cleveland, Seattle WC: Detroit, Anaheim (Baltimore eliminated last weekend from both division and WC) CS: Toronto over Cleveland NL Division: Washington, St. Louis, LA WC: Pittsburgh, SF CS: LA over St.L LA over Toronto Everything has to go right for the Jays, but we're long overdue for that...Red Sox are best on paper, but not sure they have the rotation for it..orioles are NOT that good, but weren't last year so... Tigers are past their peak, but I want to see KC do it again before I believe. NL division winners are easiest pics to make evah...SF seems to always find a way in... Don't figure that even in a special year I'm going to completely avoid disappointment...
This is part of what I love about baseball. It's not hard at this point to find a scenario in which moist teams can pull off a fantastic season. We are all expecting good things from our teams, with the exception of Texas and Florida baseball fans (all four teams). Wordforge seems to have reached a consensus on the NL division winners, so probably none of the three will make the post season. As for Baltimore, they lost too much of their talent in the off season. Take that and the fact that the other teams in the division under performed last year, and I think they get nowhere close to 90 wins this season. Baltimore got worse, the other four got better. 2014 was anomalous.
Shame on you for forgetting the Phillies. Phillies fans are pretty much hoping for the asteroid to come.
