This is a story I shared in the Shelter in repsone to the new rules. What do you say? That's racism? Really? That's kinda very cheap, ain't it, racists.
"Yesterday, I was out. Alone, writing a story that plays in a bar. So I went to a neighborhood bar, observing people and writing on the laptop. Of course I had a few drinks too. Some girl came over and asked me what I was writing since it was night and obviously not work related. I let her read a rather fun dialogue I had overheard on the next table and adapted to my story. We talked for a bit. We had a blast and a few more drinks. Girltalk." This story had so much potential.
All of you Hermans (this is intentional and not a typo), and Austrians are just mountain Hermans, are way to sensitive.
I'm of the same mind as @Aurora - I don't care what you are, just get me my fucking cup of coffee. That's not racist, that's efficiency.
Basically you are a racist when somebody is offended and says you are. The burden of proving that you aren't is on you, not the offended. Where I live we have Jews but even if they are offended the reaction would be because they are such a small minority and certainly not "oppressed" compared to blacks who are, ironically, the majority in Augusta but are still a "historically oppressed" minority group on the national level, so if blacks say you are a racist, then of course you must be. Our growing Mexican population reaction would be because they try to stay under the radar and have no political power anyway. Local Asian reaction (Koreans & dot Indians) would be because they don't want to piss off their convenience store, restaurant and motel patrons. Believe it or not our formula works because racial tension is around here.
Frankly, that sounds as if she was either (a) fucking with you, (b) drunk, (c) mad. None of these are mutually exclusive.
Here's a few points. you're not a racist. Jews aren't a race. They're just some normal people who joined a cult religion. Euros are far too sensitive about the Jews because of that whole "final solution" thing by what's his name. For some reason in Euroland it's ok to restrict free speech over race because they view multiculturalism as a progressive goal that they haven't achieved. Euroland is whiter than America. They're not racist there because they haven't had to truly confront a population that's not homogeneous. But they won't ever become racist like Americans who they like to sneer at because they will ban racism or any speech that rocks the culture boat. I don't like spinach. Makes my teeth all dry. Right?
Did she think you were anti-Semitic for saying your intern was Jewish, or because she felt you made him get your coffee because he was Jewish? Either way, it seems so overly sensitive that I'm sure the girl thinks anti-something or other is laced into every encounter she has.
But "Democrats" for blacks isn't quite the same, because a lot of whites vote democrat too.....but rarely (or much more rarely anyway) will a black be a republican.
Not in S. Alabama whites don't. Or at least not any numbers. Back home Democrats, Canadians (service industry specific) and Mondays were most common code words.
agree southern alabama (I lived there for a few years) is a whole different world than Atlanta when you talk about "the south."
Damn these guys must REALLY hate those "Mondays" because they even wrote a song about it! Who'd a thunk it?
Aurora forgot Rule Of Progressivism #32 - colorblindness is the new racism. Saying you don't care about someone's race/ethnicity means you're dismissing the importance of that group's history of oppression, which must always be the first thing you acknowledge.
