I nailed that pesky raccoon a few minutes ago. The same one I shot the tail off of a couple of weeks ago. Hit him at about 12 yards on the run with 12-guage bird shot and a full choke single shot gun.. Got a clean shot at him this time and nailed him with one shot. The shot entered his left flank and came out his chest.

As much as I like raccoons, having one around the home can be a real pain in the butt. Too many get rabies, and they damage a lot of stuff and kill small pets.

Nothing says "I'd rather not have you around any more" quite like a 12 gauge shotgun blast to the chest.

Yeah, this one kept bothering my cats and dog, tearing up my bird feeders, and tearing through the screens on my porch.

    Not anymore! :yeehaw:

Why would Mewa be interested in a thread about a Southerner killing a coon?

    Or an air rifle!

I couldn't find the cam. I think my daughter has it in Virginia.

I wish I had it on video, 'cause it was a shot that Gunforge would have been proud of. It was on the run, I more or less shot from hip, I had to hesitate for a split-second because the cat ran through the fire zone, and I nailed the raccoon in one shot about 4 feet away from my SUV, and in low-light conditions.

The cat and SUV are fine.

The skin's pretty fucked up. This is the same one I shot most of the tail off of a couple of weeks ago. :(

Muad Dib, what kind of dog do you have?

We used to be visited by a raccoon almost nightly. He would come up to our rear sliding glass door to look in. One of our cats would try to attack it through the glass, the raccoon couldn't have cared less.

Since we got a dog the raccoon hasn't been back.

A German Shepherd, but he's still just a puppy. I hope he'll be a deterrent to them once he's big enough to take them on.

I did something similar with a woodchuck once, with my .44 mag lever-gun. He was only 15 feet away, so the carefully-aimed shot (since I sighted in with lower power loads at longer range) went into the ground under his chest (dug a nice trench but didn't touch him!) and scared him. As he ran, I cranked in another round, tracked and fired like a skeet shot only using the front sight. It was pretty much my first-ever moving target shot, and I blew his whole chest off, forlegs and all. i was quite proud of myself.

Muad Dib and Forbin are like two little kids. :jayzus:

Forbin: "Hey Muad Dib, I just shot a squirrel up its ass!"

Muad Dib: "I just shot a raccoons tail off!"

Then they both Hi-5 each other.

    Now they are bored.

Muad Dib: "Hey Forbin, wanna see my pecker!"

    Forbin: ":wtf:"
