So what's the best place for webhosting with a database support?

So I'm thinking of making another website. It's been a few years.
So what's great as far as web hosting goes now?

I don't see anything with my ISP's provided webspace about database support, and I want a forum and maybe even a content management system.

    So what's good?

If I call my ISP do you think I could badger them into helping me setup a database?

I'm using Host Gator, if that helps any. They do have some customer support and will help you get started at least. As for setting up a forum, you'll have to decide what kind of BBS system you want to use (i.e.: Wordforge & TrekBBS use vBulletin, whereas I and a lot of other smaller forums tend to use Simple Machines Forum or PHP), and usually when you go to download the software, it has installation instructions and instructions for getting set up. I know SMF has a forum you can ask for help, too, and I'd guess most others would as well.

Hostgator would be ok for a small account, I agree.

Don't know much about webhosting with databases, but support more Danica Patrick commericals with godaddy.

Has anyone ever tried to setup a database with the webspace your ISP gives you for free ?

Sure. With the caveat being that I'm a decidedly nontechnical guy, so I can't tell you about how it works. But I've stuck a Wordpress installation on GoDaddy and it is all seamless and painless.

SMF works well if you want to go free for forum software.

Dealing with databases depends on what you want to do--do you just want database backend for websites, or do you want a custim accessible database to store information in? If the former, no worries--most hosting can have MySQL, but if the latter, you'll have to learn some stuff.

    MySQL

However, I have two ISPs. One with Charter, one with Centurylink. I see nothing about databases in their FAQ. And searching on both sites sees no results.

    Suggestions?

I'd rather not pay for more hosting when I've got this laying around for free.

When I was searching for a new provider, (since my last one is about as reliable as hiring a personal assistant with Alzheimer's), two names kept coming up. Bluehost and iPage. I surfed iPage and when I decided to leave the website, it said "But wait! don't leave! We'll lower the price further!" And it offered me hosting for $2.50 per month. That is when I signed up.

So far, it's been pretty good. No downtime to report, and I successfully installed Joomla and Wordpress without much difficulty. In fact, they were a one button install. Not sure about forums and databases, since I'm not into that, but for $2.50 a month, it's hard to see a downside. The $30 a year is nothing compared to what other, less reliable hosts charge.

A lot of people doing websites and web related things seem to recommend Bluehost, so I don't think you can go wrong with either one.

If you go with iPage, just don't, like, use up all my shit or anything. :garamet:
