I'm connected in the oil industry, and while I can't share sources, BP has apparently asked some people I know to come down and help plug the leak.

But they first had to sign an agreement along the lines of 'if your advice is wrong, we can sue you for damages.' Guy refused to go along despite initially agreeing.

That, plus I've heard that BP is basically telling other oil companies like Exxon and a few Chinese companies that want to help to screw themselves. I can't verify this for sure though.

Apparently a lot of outside help is being offered. My old crew has been asked by our former employer if we would be willing to come in and help with some plans they wanted to put together. Just staging stuff for now.

Reason for the outreach from the oil community is because this whole damn leak is giving oil in general a bad name. So the whole industry is trying to help.

    BP apparently ain't listening.

Take that for what its worth.

Don't worry, Barry has this under control.

This is exactly why the Fed needs to have taken this over long ago. BP's interests and those of the US and it's Gulf Coast do not coincide at this juncture. To continue to allow BP to run the show is criminally negligent.

Are you suggesting people pull their deep sea salvage sub out their garage and go down on their own? :unuts:

Well, yeah if they have what it takes to close off the leak.

You have no idea what you're talking about EP.

You can't just hire your own boat and cruise on in.

I thought we were talking about other oil companies. I would imagine no one else is going to have the capability to go a mile down and do anything. Its quite obvious that BP has lost control of the situation. Does BP own the land they have drilled on? If not then its a government concern and they should be running the show and not BP. It would be the same with my company and a big environmental concern. Would I be allowed to fight my own fire while the neighborhood burns down? It seems like they are following a step by step plans when they should be doing the shotgun approach where everything is tried.

They have the ability to prevent other companies from coming in and helping.

Which is exactly what they're doing.

I take it to mean they're more concerned about the liability of having someone else onsite than they are about actually plugging the leak.

I heard they are also rejecting ideas that they didn't come up with. Just fucking stupid.

I've dumped all my BP stock and suggest that anybody else who has any do the same. :bailey:

I heard BP's latest plan is to plug the leak with kittens and dead babies. The reason it is taking so long is that PETA is making it hard for them to get enough kittens and since they are technically fetuses they can't raid abortion clinic dumpsters. :(

I don't think its liability as much as thinking they have all the solutions.

I know this for a fact.

Spent 6 hours in a closed door meeting this morning with 20 engineers from one of the biggest oil companies in the world and as of 2PM this afternoon 3 of our ideas had been rejected.

    BP can go fuck themselves.

They want absolutely no outside help.

I generally invest for the long term, and I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt for a while. Turns out they didn't deserve it.

I can see them rejecting help, too many cooks and all that rot. They tried the top kill, which in most instances would have been adiquate but the move they're trying now should have been the first move, cut the pipe and get a set of BOPs on top of it, seal it off and shut it in.

This should work. It's pretty much SOP for land blowouts once the flames are put out. I don't know how much leakage there is around the casing and immediate area through fractures though.

    Noooooooooo.

Geez man, at least be decent and not tell everyone to buy now. Be quiet so it falls a bit more, then we can buy it all up.

Yeah. The top kill should have been tried the next day.

I've dealt with a couple blowouts before.

We had a BOP in place before though, so plugging it was relatively easy. And it didn't fail afterwards. I think a couple guys pissed themselves though when it happened. :diacanu:

Nothing like screaming and yelling at everyone to ignore the pants they just shit and get the fuck over here to help me. Shit, good times.

BP is going with the LMRP cap, but it has never been done that that depth.

Should take a few more days to get it hooked up.

Of course if Fuckhead Barry had taken charge a month ago, it would be the gov't deciding whose ideas to use, not BP. The Fucker should be impeached for criminal negligence in allowing this to continue under BP. He cartainly has not upheld his oath of office.

Tell us again how you're in favor of smaller government.

Or were you referring to your fuckhead cousin Barry? Because nowhere in the U.S. President's oath of office is there anything about "fixing problems that make the libertarian dream of benevolent corporations look bad."

Garamet this problem has gone beyond one company to affect several different states. It's an entirely appropriate function for the government to step in and take over especially when the company is not getting the job done.

You damn well know if this was Bush you'd be slamming him for not personally getting in a deep diving craft and going down there personally to shut the well off.

Ah, so there is a "this far and no farther" clause built in. Small government until you need big government. I take it that the the idea of establishing parameters beforehand remains anathema, though?

I'll repost this from another thread I had posted it originally.

Now, I know your clinically stupid and sadly there are no pictures, but perhaps you could have someone read and explain this to you. Maybe if you find a kindergarten teacher to read it to you they'll use small enough words for you to understand.

So if Turkey Point Nuclear Power Plant is having major problems, close to melting down and FPL is being fucking retarded about it I shouldn't be demanding the government step in and take over?
