Captain Jack Harkness, vying with Mumm-Ra for the title of "The Ever-Living"...

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/torchwood/torchwood_new_series/

There were rumours of a US adaptation of Torchwood, but I prefer this option... without a minor link to the Whoniverse it's just The X-Files or Fringe.

Here's hoping they can keep the standard of Children of Earth and the better eps of Series 2.

Do you know if this will be shown on Starz?

If so, this could be very interesting indeed. I have long wondered how a fully adult science fiction show would fare on premium channels, away from the lowest-common-denominator mentality of American broadcast networks.

The show will apparently premiere on Starz in summer 2011.

Seems to me that this is what was rumored, it's just that the rumors weren't quite accurate.

With RTD having more time on his hands now without Doctor Who on his plate I am quite interested to see this, should be great quality.

What? You don't think a three way with Jack, you and a buxom beauty wouldn't be fun? Or are you worried about whom Jack would be trying to nail?

Yeah, digging a bit deeper, it seems this was the same script they pitched to Fox. I was just under the impression that RTD was writing an adaptation rather than a straight-up continuation of the existing series.

As ever with Torchwood, at first I go 'oooh', then I recall the utter turdage that the majority of the first two series consisted of...

Hopefully it'll be good. But then I also hope England win the World Cup, and my expectations for that aren't exactly stratospheric either.

Unless he makes an appearance, why would it matter?

Since Jack's story is remaining the same though, it should be Eleven.

I remember a lot of people having that same impression of what was to come, but it was all speculation. I don't remember any source anywhere saying it would be an "adaptation". I think some people got that into their heads because no one could comprehend why Torchwood, an agency founded to protect Britain could possibly operate in America or anywhere else.

I'm fairly certain some of the articles about RTD's departure from Who mentioned that he was heading to the US to "work on a US version of Torchwood". Probably misleading writing but "version", to me, implies different to the original. Now that's technically accurate in that the agency is moving out of Cardiff, but the way it was written sounded a bit more major.

Doctor Who 1996 was technically a "US Version of Doctor Who", but it wasn't "out of continuity"* with the regular series.

In any case, I think too much was being read into the term, "US Version". I've never taken that to automatically mean "remake". Usually when someone means "remake", they say "remake".

    * Obviously, that was by no means a universal opinion at the time. I think nuWho has validated it's canonicity to a large degree in any case.

Well, whatever. Torchwood was a steaming pile, ruined by RTD's insistance on pushing his "isn't it great to take it up the arse" agenda. I suspect the new version will be no different if he is at the helm.

^yeah, but Torchwood was also responsible for some of the worst pieces of telly ever. 'Cyberwoman' was more unpleasant than finding Maddy McCann's rotting corpse on your grandads dick.

    I would think so.

Matt Smith is going to be on Sarah Jane Adventures this season...an episode with ex-companion Jo Grant of all things...RTD helms that show, too, so I surmise if a Doc appears on TW it will be him.

I have to say I am a little worried 11 with Sarah and Jo is going to come across as Doctor visits his grans though. Matt really carries a timeless vibe well, but next to them and the long history...a little less confident it's going to work.

Eh, Matt isn't really working for me. There's a lot less feeling of the depth that the last two doctors brought to the role. I'm only up to ep 7 of the current season though. But to this point while he's got the manic energy of the Doctor down there isn't the world weariness that should be at his heart.

Torchwood is something I've caught a few times, but not enough to really pay it much attention. Captain Jack was always fun though, I like that actor and the character.
