The joy of watching England crash and burn every four years never gets old. The hysterics of the tabloids will be amusing tomorrow.

Don't you mean a combination of different kingdoms?
So its a union the UK, just like the US is a union.

Just like like joy of seeing Ireland fail to qualify never gets old.

No, I don't we have one joint monarch and are not caklled the United Kingdoms .
So its a union the UK, just like the US is a union.[/QUOTE]

Well, your quote is somewhat out of date since it predates both the addition of Ireland and Wales and the subsequent establishment of the Irish Free State...and no, it is not a union the same as the US as the US is not a union of countries, whereas the UK is.

You act like this is a knock out stage match. Alas we will still move beyond the group.

Perhaps, but then if you'd asked before this match, you'd have said that England would have beaten the US, and that the keeper wouldn't have let in a goal most toddlers would have saved.

On a more serious point, I only caught a few of the highlights. Ignoring the scoreline, were England the better team or were things fairly even?

Perhaps after 60 years of World Cup failure the English will be begging to be allowed a few talented Scots, Welshmen and Irish to compete under the U.K banner, in order to compete with the real nations of football talent?

I don't think they limit the nationality of people on the teams do they? I think they could get a Russian to play for England if they wanted him, just like other sports. I could be wrong here.

It doesn't matter, the fact is that real men don't play footie with each other. ;) I only went to a couple of those games and the Hooligans were much more entertaining than the game.

You would be wrong about that, just like you have been wrong with pretty much every post in this thread, just in keeping with your general posting in wordforge! Why would everyone hate them?

A russian playing for England? Fucksake! Only if he was born in England or had an English granny. You cant just decide you want the best player from all over the world, its not a league system. USA have a Scottish born player in there team, but he moved to America when he was 10 and he has since become an American citizen. You also dont get sponsership the same way club teams would have. Yes, some teams may have some limited sponsorship backing but you would only really see any of their logos etc on training wear, not competitive strips.

Cool, that explains why the "Brit" ;) team was not flying the Union Jack. I was wondering about that.

    Anyways......

You guys should have won. America didn't deserve that goal. Plus I hate ties. Ties should be outlawed. Play to win.

Having ties at all is one thing, having ties in a WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES is another level of unacceptable entirely!

Sheesh, at least end the game "shootout style" with penalty kicks in the style of ice hockey if you must!

There are 2 phases in this tournament.
A league phase and a cup phase. In this league phase you can have draws, but later in the cup phase you cant.

Except this is a world cup. If it were a world championship series it would be contested by teams from within 1 nation no?? :?:

I think the yanks here are having trouble getting the concept of a world cup into their heads because they don't tend to participate in team sports against anyone else. Call essentially a national league the world series and leave it at that.

That would be you letting your imagination run away, methinks.

I don't see a single person here having trouble with the concept of a "world cup".
