But, but, Pres. Obama (:hail:) said he was gonna eliminate needless regulations to spur job creation. Or was that just another damned lie?

    Don't answer that, it's rhetorical.

I'm giving odds here, 1 will get you 5, Pres. Obama (:hail:) will state that lessening regulations is part of his "jobs" plan in Thursday's speech.

    Any takers?

Well, if they're going to go to this extent of giving information out on products, maybe they should just go ahead and include the percentile allowable of things like rats, roaches, animals, numerous bugs, and of course human parts.

. . . How is this going to help? The average person loves bar graphs but hates text? We're going to force all individually sold candy bars to be humongous just so everything can be fit on the wrapper? Is that the idea?

The labels are already required and have been since 1992. Looks like this change, which has apparently been in the works since 2003, just changes what goes on the labels. Not seeing how this is an increase in regulatory burden.

The "big blocks of color" from the magazine contest, meanwhile, is just stupid. But given how small some of the items that need to be labeled are, I can't imagine it actually being adopted.

My Opinion. Forget the serving size. Tell me how much is in the entire bag, box, etc. I eat half the bag I get half the stuff that is in it. The serving size is just a way to fool the American people with something that just doesn't apply in the real world. Who here actually eats 14 cheeze curls, or only a piece of steak the size of a deck of cards? I was comparing two cans of soft drinks one time and found that one had about half the sugar of the other, only to then realize that one said a can was two servings. WTF? You open a can/small bottle of any soft drink and its going to go flat if you don't drink the entire thing at one time.

Yep. Then, without lessening regulations at all, in a later speech he'll state that all his regulations-lessening did not help at all in creating new jobs, which proves more regulation is needed.

Better yet, break down the ingredients of the ingredients.
That's how companies have been hiding scary shit under blanket terms like "natural flavors".
Lotta nasty stuff can be "natural".
And legally, you can tear apart the chemical makeup of something, and rebuild it into something spooky, and still call it "natural", while the synthetic from the ground up ingredient could actually be better for you.

Natural banana flavoring has trace amounts of cyanide that get concentrated when they're fucked with, but that's a "natural flavor".
You'd be much better off with the unnatural flavor.

And forget about avoiding things with bananas involved, they sneak shit like that into things you'd never expect.

But, if you knew what the "natural flavors", were...

But no, let's leave these poor trustworthy corporations alone...

Yeah, how do you like that government interference now, cowboys?

Course, the argument goes, if you really listed EVERYTHING they put inside, say...a Micky Dees shake, the label would trail down to the floor, and you'd be horrified, and would stop eating...EVERYTHING, and "waaah, that'll kill jawbs! :weep:".

Oh, gee, why don't you fuckers just stop poisoning us?

Same difference, because the qualifier is "sufficient."

If you want to get downright technical, sufficient mass consumed/absorbed/injected per unit time per unit of body mass. :diacanu:

Is some entity forcing you, or someone you know, to eat there?
For that matter, is there some evil corporation sending out jack boot thugs and coercing you to eat unhealthy food at the point of a gun?
Keeping you from learning to interpret what's already on the labels of the foods you eat?

I don't believe that any of that is going on.
    At all.
    Ever.
Sounds to me as though, if you're being poisoned, that you're doing it to yourself.

    Why are you bitching?

No shit, Sherlock, and that's not the fucking argument.

To avoid any chance of cancerous fattening crap, you pretty much have to eat nothing but butcher meat, and raw produce.

Anything run through a machine is suspect.

Course, even eating like a farmer, there's possible pesticides, and steroids...

    Not everyone's informed of that.

    That's why I bitch.

    Now you know, GI Joe.

    And, go fuck yourself. :)

The stupid thing is thinking the labels will matter at all.

Nothing seems to stop people from sucking smoke, not even cancer.

Labels started in 1992 and all America got was fatter. No one really cares about labels. Smaller packages only means people will buy twice as much. I see people sucking off a personal 2 Liter bottle of soda all the time and it's pretty clear that isn't a one person serving.

Some fat people who don't want to be embarrassed will say shit like, "I didn't understand the labels! It's not my fault!" as an excuse for their obesity. Anyone with sense knows that isn't true and just an attempt as saving face.

A big waste of time and money that will change nothing.

So, we should govern down to the stupid.

A variation on that is Hollywood's attitude to the cinema arts, look what that's given us.

Yeah, people are dumb, let's just give up.

Let's not have an FDA, let's go back to "the jungle", everyone takes their chances.

People who care won't be eating processed shit and don't need labels to know what's in fresh produce, fresh meats and fish, water, milk ect.

People eating crap already know it's crap. The labels already clearly state 12 doritos is a serving size....do you count out 12 chips because the label says so? Do you not do it because you don't understand the label or because you just want more than 12 fucking chips?

A new label won't make people suddenly want only 12 chips. If only 12 chip bags are sold, people will buy more than one.

So what difference will new labels really make??

Yeah, saw it coming, the conservative position always seems to come down to a eugenics by passivity routine....

Well, see though, that's the thing, it doesn't even have to be "crap", food, you more or less have to run your own little hippie farm to not have ANYTHING in your fucking food anymore.

Who the hell can live like that?
    Only a handful.

On this board, pretty much 'flow.
    That's it.

You want a society where 'flow gets to be the last man standing?
I mean, I like the guy all right, but The Omega Man?
I dunno, I was naively hoping it would be Heston.

    What they're proposing?
    Nothing.
Because it's been watered down by compromise, because assholes have been bought off.

My ideal scenario put a code on there you can scan it with your I-phone, and you get the whole dirt.
    Everything.

Course, further in the future, I'd like an e-paper touchscreen on product boxes.
