Well, correct me if I'm wrong but even if it were 100% I'd still have to break the rules to get banned. Well, unless you wanted to set an unhealthy precedent of the rules not mattering. However, you are free to post said poll, ya know, for shits and giggles. If they did all vote against me though, I think it'd be time for a bit of Fun Time Frankie.
^ This. If we permabanned every whiny dipshit on the board, this place would be emptier than Volpone's forums.
Wasn't there a VB filter mentioned in another thread? It would be nice if we could install it and maybe reduce the load to 100 or so a day. I cleared some out yesterday just to have 5 more join while I was deleting the ones I looked up! It's freaking relentless and I wonder how so many end up here.
I'll do it. You people would be amazed at how many spammers are lurking here under "legitimate" accounts. Some have been here since the board was founded. I'll clean it up.
You know me too well. I'm 53 now. I was ten years younger when I did all the mod stuff. I took on TrekBBS 7 years ago and that is plenty. It's pretty much where I want it to be now and I'm content with that. It's the only place I mod at all anymore; I'm technically a mod at a place where I started before I did on TrekBBS, but it's pretty much a dead board and since I was there so long, I'll stay 'til they shut the doors. While my basic urge to help/desire to make decisions in a place about which I care still is there and always will be, I no longer have the patience for Internet tantrums and stupidities. Life is too short. I have a new grandson (my first grandchild) and a part-time writing job and my priorities have changed. So I really don't see any circumstance in which I'd mod anywhere new anymore. Best I would do is what I've done at some places, quiet behind-the-scenes advice if asked. I still care about you guys, even my enemies (fuck you all! ) so I lurk and occasionally have a scrap with you for old times sake. Me a mod here. LOL. I'm not that masochistic.
I doubt you have many enemies here anymore, Bonz...they've either long since left, or most people figure eight years is a long time to hold grudges over bullshit on the 'Net. Honestly, I think the only thing I was annoyed by you about was the handling of a certain Enterprise shipper, but that one worked itself out once we all banded together to ignore her.
Eh. I figure no term limits for staff. My board went for 4 years without a real change in staff, and only the past 2 has it received a change-up. I figure as long as the job gets done and gets done well, it doesn't really matter. I mean, no one is getting paid, no one's getting any real benefit from it because on my board, Mods can be warned (I don't remember if that happens here). Since I'm the Admin for my board, I have the full picture of what's going on there in terms of staff. If I replace someone, it was for a good reason. If I don't, it's also for a good reason. I figure mod rotations are just another headache. Just my two cents.
Oh, a few might still be around. It never bothered me. When you've a strong personality, the price you pay is having some enemies. That's life. Online, there are people who genuinely dislike you and others who just are in the LOOKIT ME mode when it comes to a high-profile person, meaning they'll pick at you so others will notice THEM. I think the sad thing about the 'net though is because of the anonymity some are afforded, you see the ugliness some would let out if they could get away with it in real life. That's a bit sobering.
I'd only support this if it took an already existing mod/admin position. We have more than enough as it is. In fact I'd advocate cutting down on the mods we have. Then you could periodically rotate through the existing pool who you know are willing and possibly a couple others. This would cut down on the cliquish nature (less us means more them) AND still get fresh faces through a rotation. I thought this place pretty much ran itself?
Simple answer from me - no! Theres not enough balanced people on wordforge to make any kind of sensible rotation. Within 6 months the board would be run by a team of roasters!
I'd be in favor of routinely rotating out staff members on any board. It's healthy to, every so often pry someones fingers away from the mod/adminCP. Take away access to the ivory tower staff forum and force them to live among the peasantry. Doing so helps prevent a case of unwarranted self importance. No one is advocating anything of the sort. The basis of the proposal is that everyone on staff takes a break once in while to rejoin the regular posters. Looking at the forum leaders page, there's only two admins and three global moderators. The board may not be big but it certainly can find enough regular members to fill a couple of those spots every so often.
