I'm surprised noone has started a topic on this one. It was actually a much better episode than the last cheesefest.

And Rory continues to be the man!!!!

I don't watch the show any more (haven't since the doctor right after Tom Baker), but I guess there's no 'Temporal Prime Directive' if you're a Time Lord, eh?

Only a little. "Fixed points" in time shouldn't be interfered with, and you're not supposed to mess with your own personal timeline, but other than that it's pretty open.

I'm bitterly disappointed that the young colored lady that played "Mels" is not likely to return.

    She was teh sexxx.

What was up with the little animated segment? Did they not have the money to film that scene or something?

^^^ It was during a commercial break, they showed it one the "Doctor Who Insider" but or whatever it's called. It's basically an animatic of what they wanted to do with the "Alien robot-ship with miniature humans inside morphs into a Nazi on a motorcyle and chases Amy and Rory around" scene.

Decent episode. I was worried about the introduction of the new character at first who seemed out of place, but the twist was worth it.

Great episode. She still looked too much like her younger self, but the last 20 minutes was phenomenal. No matter how cheesey Dr. Who can get, and this episode certainly had it's fair share of gouda, those final moments with old Amelia would drive the most hardened asshole to tears.

Much better than most this season, but still average.

Worst season of nuWho by far.....and Matt Smith is beginning to annoy me, not through the fault of his, but the writers who just keep making him into a buffoon this season and nothing else.

I think there's a married couple in the TARDIS for the first and possibly only time ever, and some of the writers are a little focused on taking advantage of the opportunity.

This one was definitely better than the one before, which on reflection felt a little unpolished. I just don't want every single episode to be focused on the Amy/Rory dynamic, great as it is, y'know? ;)

It was a good episode, but it shows the weakness of having an seasonal arc. The episode would have packed a lot more punch if Rory had put his foot down and said they were through traveling with the Doctor. He didn't want to risk losing Amy anymore and for the Doctor to take them home.

At the end of the last episode I was waiting/hoping for Amy and Rory to tell the Doctor to go f* himself and get the hell away from that life-ruining manipulative madman. Wonder if they'll even bother with any of that in the next episode, or if they'll be back to happy-go-lucky vacationers.

That's pretty much what I'm wondering. I suspect the latter, but the arcs in the past two seasons (that is, since I started watching) have been so stop-and-go that TPTB could easily pull this out a few episodes down the road.

I was hoping that wouldn't be unceremoniously swept aside in the episode itself, but

I'm also getting the impression that we're supposed to be picking up on a darker, colder side of the Doctor.

Sometimes episodes are filmed or shown out of their original intended order. I read that the last one with the kid, "Night Terrors" was meant to be shown last season or something, hence it had no recognition of the search for River Song, or River being their daughter. I do think this last one will have some bearing on the overall arc, or maybe it will just serve to put down the Doctor/Amy shippers once and for all, her love of Rory is unquestioned now.

And I like the allusions to a darker Doctor, I think we're in for something special, this is the guy that killed all his people ya know. He's coming back. :bergman:

Sooner or later, they must either alter the entire timeline or introduce the era of the Valeyard. I suspect it's been a slow building up to that since NuWho began.

Again, the absence of mentioning Melody is really obvious. It seems weird that Old Amelia wouldn't care about her, the search for her or want to see her again.

I've never seen a single episode of Doctor Who. What does it compare to? I do not even know the basic idea behind the show but based on this thread I assume time travel. Is it like a Quantum Leap type thing?

Um..okay...hard show to boil down, but here goes...

Alien humanoid from a uber-advanced race travels time, space, and dimensions with this thing that's a phone booth on the outside, and a ship bigger than the Galactica on the inside.
    It's called the TARDIS.

He has 13 regenerations, which means, if he dies, instead of rotting, he reincarnates on the spot into a new guy.
This was jury-rigged so new actors could come in and play him.

The regenerations kind of mark the eras of the show like captains on Trek.

He's on life number 11 now.

Along the way, he picks up humans that become his sidekicks for awhile, and they're called "companions".
    They also mark the eras.

Hmm...it doesn't really compare to anything...it's kinda Trekkie...but it's got its own flavor.

    Oh, and Quantum Leap? no.

QL was reigned in by some very definite rules, The Doctor can go anywhere, and do anything.

One episode can be horror, another comedy, another soap-opera-ish, and they can do any setting they can imagine.

In otherwords Tex, he's a space pervert who has spent 1000 years abducting young women so that he can "look but not touch".

Basically he changes his face so that the galactic sex police don't catch up with him.

Just to add to this, he is also a super genius and more than a little bit "crazy" at times. Him and his companions are usually sightseeing through time and space, but inevitably end up somewhere where trouble is happening. The TARDIS kind of takes him where he needs to be.

The tone of the show can be a bit cheesy (sometimes more than a bit) and the writing often doesn't hold up to any degree of scrutiny, but the characters (especially the doctor) make it worthwhile.

Alright I'll try it out, where should I start? I am not going back 11 generations, when does it become more modern and good?
