I agree with you here, but corporations aren't the only entities I trust less. I would be even more concerned to see religions running the economy, for example.

That said, while it is quite stable, I think I'd prefer currency minted by Yoyodyne Propulsion Systems, Weyland-Yutani Corporation, or possibly NewsCorp.

Gift certificates/cards are basically a company's own currency. Between eBay and Amazon, there's not a lot you can't get with them. There's a slight convertibility issue, but seeing as you can sell Amazon gift cards on eBay (and probably vice versa), it's not totally out of the question.
