Most of us WF old-timers remember when you were Mr. No Shirt Party Animal.

As we say here in the South, "You've gotten above your raising."

Or maybe I should have said YGAYR so you can understand it.

"This is a thread about MARSOC. The MSOT is the basic MARSOC unit. And ODA is quite common. And as I've pointed out above, I HAVE explained the term before."

    You call that teaching?

    Here's a clue.....

    THAT'S NOT TEACHING.

Don't know what MARSOC is. Don't know what MSOT is. ODA only because you put it in this thread but still it means nothing to me.

Operational Detachment Alpha? Okay so I know ODA = Operational Detachment Alpha. Don't know what it is however.

Have no idea what any of them are or how they relate to anything. Big? Small? Attached to what? Commanded by what? Mission purpose?

And no I'm not carrying around a list of acronyms to read your posts.

You're not special enough for that.....

    It's a Wordforge miracle! :fireworks

The historian in me knows that the Founders set it up so that the CIC is a civilian and the military was intended to be under civilian control.

    Frankly, Anc, you scare me.

Now you've gone from whining to full retard.

Find one instance where I have EVER argued against civilian control of the military.

    BTW, what's CIC?

Well, to be fair, that one was explained in the article in the opening post. Volpone put "MARSOC" in the title, but the opening words of the article were about "Marine special operators." Even non-military types can put that and the acronym together and figure out that MARSOC probably means "MARines Special Operations Corps" or something close enough to that to follow the discussion.

You are correct, though, that the other acronyms thrown around in the thread should have been explained (and not "I told you once, somewhere, in a thread sometime, now go look it up!"). A writer who wants to communicate explains the meaning of terms that will be unfamiliar to the general public the first time he uses them in a given context, unless the discussion is not open to the general public.

The C in MARSOC is for Command, but you got the jist.

And sorry, not going to type a paragraph explanation for a one sentence post. Most of those who would be interested in the armament of an MSOT or ODA already know what it is. If you don't, you can look it up.

Why? B/c I realize that most people don't care about said armament? The amount of people at the intersection of "I would like to know the armament of an MSOT or an ODA" and "I don't know what an MSOT or an ODA is" is small enough that it's not worth the effort.

Besides how freaking hard is it to highlight a word or acronym, right click and select "Search for X"?

It's worth the effort for the people in this thread who don't know asshole. We are participating in this thread and obviously we are interested in the information so how about stop being a asshole for five minutes and clue us non-military people in.

And stop telling people to fucking Google it.

Did you know when you Google "MSOT" you don't get anything even close to describing what MSOT is. Google just thinks you spelled MOST wrong.

ODA? Google says: Official development assistance (ODA), Ohio Dental Association, Oregon Department of Agriculture, Out-of-Door Academy, Oregon Dental Association

I suppose I'm supposed to scroll down and then search for ODA military? Fuck that.

MARSOC? Only one that comes straight up with the Marines.

Still none of it explains how MARSOC, MSOT, ODA all tie together and yes what guns they use.

Or am I supposed to spend the whole fucking night researching it when some asshole, like you for instance, could have taken five minutes to type something out and let everyone know what's what?

Yes, if you care to figure out what it means, go look it up. If you don't, don't. I don't give a shit.

And with bing 'MSOT military' and 'ODA military' both give you the answer in the first link.

LOL. Back in...2006, I did a project for a company. They had a mentor who was a Marine aviator in Vietnam. When he found out I'd been a Marine officer we had a 90 second "dog-sniff" conversation. When we got done talking the room was silent for a second. Finally the owner said, with a degree of awe "I don't think I've ever heard so many acronyms in such a short amount of time."

The irony is, I was consciously trying to minimize the amount of jargon I used.

So now instead of right clicking we've got to right click and then type in extra stuff?

How about you stop being an asshole?

I know you think you're special and "above" most of us here but hey once in a while you can get off that high horse of yours and get down in the mud with us commoners.

I do have to say, I don't know shit about military acronyms.

I would like to hear how our government is spending money on our troops, just to be a little more well rounded. An informed public is best. IMHO But if I have to google several acronyms in a thread more than likely a few times to remember them...

Anc you should want the public to know and this may be a small public but its a start. If our questions about what is what weren't wanted then this would have been put in camp wordforge. (where I skip over stuff like this because of the way things are put out there) Since it was put in the red room for DISCUSSION then things need to be put all out on the table so they can be discussed.

    Just my 2 cents.
