Meh. The rules are whatever Lanzman wants them to be. I understand how it can be annoying for one rule to be asserted over another, but in truth, no one can be entirely consistent. It's just not going to happen over a span of years with thousands of members.

I think if I would have asked what they meant, he would have told me. Not because I'm special, but because of poster history and tone. That said, when I saw the acronyms, I just did a quick search through Google and got the results. Yeah, it takes a couple extra seconds, but it minimizes disruption of the thread flow. With so many search engines at your fingertips, it's way too easy to look it up in seconds.

I do like the military threads. My areas are the War Between the States and the air war over Europe in WW2. I'm interested in discussions about the modern military.

I'd like to participate and discuss in those threads, but I can't when I don't understand what Anc is saying.

Hell, Firefox has an option where you can just right click a word and have Google search the dictionary for you without any typing at all or leaving the page.

Just install the extension into FF and you can right click words and have them pop up in a tool tip with the definition. It really comes in handy.

Recently, we were talking about the SEALs taking out bin Laden. Frontline mentioned that they weren't really called Seal Team 6 anymore and he used another term. Might have been SOCOM (?). So I used the term that Frontline used. Anc proceeded to correct me on that with another term and then makes the comment, "Now go and sin no more."

That's the snarky, condescending attitude that's pissing some of us off and that's what led to the carpet bombing.

I appreciate Anc's service. I really do. But I don't appreciate the condescension.

This issue with Anc has been building for a long time. It's nothing new. I've posted LSMFT numerous times when he starts that shit to get the point across to speak in plain English that is understandable by most of us. Several posters have expressed over the years that they don't understand what he's talking about when he does that.

What does it take to get that point across to him?

If Anc wants to teach and inform about modern military structure, then teach and inform! You can't do that by being over the top and snarky.

How would any of you like a teacher or professor who uses a term that you don't understand and then says, "You should know that already," when you ask him to explain it? Further, when he fails to explain and moves on with the lecture, how conducive is that to learning? It's not! You're lost for the rest of the lecture and not getting the learning out of it that you should.

Just because he knows what those terms mean, that doesn't mean the rest of us do. To most of us, it's meaningless and we're lost in the discussion.

And I'd remind Anc that back just a few years ago when he was Mr. No Shirt Party Animal, he probably didn't have a damned clue what MARSOC, MSOT, or ODA meant either.
