And this is the last nail in the coffin of the idea that a gay man can be turned - if kissing Jewell Staite won't do it, it can't be done.

Stiff competition (no pun intended) since they have about 14,000,000 gay men in Hollywood - per square mile.

Well, it did surprise me! I don't really think about anyone's orientation (unless it's lesbians, and then that's more hope than suspicion), so this is just a pleasant surprise.

I quoting something - sounds like Monty Python, but I didn't get a lot of sleep last night, so I'm not at my best.

Wow, I really had no idea at all. I guess I just have an incredibly bad gaydar. Scratch off one guy I won't have to compete with over girls I guess.

I think Jewel Staite seriously had a crush on him too.

Sorry, I have quite possibly the world's worst gaydar. I honestly didn't see The Village People coming...or George Michael.....or Elton John.
I can't "read" people very well.

I don't think I have "gaydar". But, I have been able to deduce a person's sexuality by their actions and conversations.

One of my favorite ones ... A friend of mine in the military, we were in training together - well, we weren't really friends to start out with - hated each other actually. But, we learned to get along and eventually became friends.

Anyway, she and the other classmates were always discussing the "gays in the military" issue. This was back in the fall of '92 and Clinton was running for president and all that. She also talked quite a bit about all the men she'd slept with and how good some were, how bad some were ... all that bragging kind of crap.

She also never socialized with anyone else in the class. We were a pretty close knit group as we were the only class on "night shift". We went to class from 4 pm to midnight. So, we never saw anyone else in the company. It was just us.

So, in a company of two hundred people, and you figure about 10 percent* of the population is gay/lesbian, probably 20 soldiers were gay/lesbian. And, as this was an electronics MOS (Military Occupational Specialty - i.e. my job), only 10 percent of the soldiers were women - out of twenty women, two were probably lesbian.

Of the twenty women, I knew of one who, in the midst of 20 other class members all raging about Clinton and gays in the military, spoke of all the heterosexual sex she'd had and she never socialized with the rest of the class.

When we were the only two of twenty class members to be stationed together, she thought she'd tell me before we got to our permanent duty station. After this long, convoluted attempt to "break it to me easy", I was like "pfft. I knew that." And she got all offended - "no, you didn't! How did you know?"

So, I had to explain to her the previous thought process.

Anyway, one doesn't need gaydar, just the ability to read people.

I only saw Sean Maher in Firefly, so I had nothing but his acting to give me a clue. But, I gotta say, I'm not surprised.

*Don't remember where exactly I got that figure, but that's the number I used.

Before this, I thought I had good gaydar. I was driving downtown with my sister, and one of her guy friends calls her. She grew up with two brothers and several male cousins, so she's a tomboy through and through so she has a lot of guy friends. Anyways, this guy friend of hers calls her up, and she puts him on the speaker. He says in the gayest voice possible "guess who's got tickets to see Phantom of the Opera?" :gay:

After he hangs up, I ask her if he's on the queer side, and she totally is shocked I would ask such a question. She's like noooo waaay! I think that guy even said he had a crush on her at one point.

Six months later, he comes out of the closet. And the funny part is, at the time, he was totally in love with his roommate. That roommate, however, didn't swing that way. Now the roommate and my sister are dating, and he'll probably pop the question to her this Christmas.

My sister stole her guy friend's true love! :rotfl:

there's a lot of ragging on Takei, and a lot of locker=room humor, such as the Volpone is gay" riff - but frankly, there isn't really a "homophobeforge"

There are, what, 2 - maybe 3 posters here who are overtly antigay.
