I expected more of the Nolan Batman movies than a Catwoman who fights and does her acrobatic ninja flip stuff in high heels.
I bet she's going to work just fine. I like Nolan's "understated" look to supervillains. It comes across more realistic on screen. I remember doing a when I first saw the Heath Ledger version of Joker, but that look REALLY worked for the film. I have a little faith that this will, too...
Looks a lot like the 60s version. And while I'll trust Chritopher Nolan, Hathaway strikes me as a tad too "delicate" for such a physical role.
^Same here. Although the more I think about 'The Dark Knight' the more flaws I see in it. Mostly with how they handled Dent. If they were gonna kill him off, why bother even turning him into Two-Face? As Two-Face he was barely in the movie and distracted from the Batman-Joker showdown. I see what they were going for, but it felt a bit unrealistic (for the Nolanverse) to have Dent flip on a dime, so to speak. He should have gone after the Joker, not Gordon. Also, the Joker's 'tests' went on a bit too long. He wanted to prove that Gotham is a place without hope and where everyone is just as sick as he is... but they could have trimmed out a lot of this material. Not saying it was a bad movie, but it wasn't perfect. I think Heath Ledger's death elevated the movie in the minds of critics and audiences. Yes, it was a great portrayal... but better than Jack Nicholson? I dunno. I think that is a tough call. I'll have to watch Batman Begins and Dark Knight again soon.
They both took the character in different directions and they both did a great job, I don't think a comparison is really possible. Also,
No way was Ledger a better Joker. Being a better Joker does not constitute licking you lips a lot. Ledger's joke is just plain evil. He's a murderer, a maniac. Sick. But that isn't the Joker from the comic books. That Joker was all those things, but it was all shrouded by and moxed in with the over the top nasty clown persona. Nicholson brought that to his performance as well as being evil, and, for that reason, gives the better of the two. If anyone doubts this they sould go back and watch the "I have taken off my make up" scene from 89's Batman and contrast it with Jack's other scenes. Ledger could not perform with that scope.
