And as (wait for it....) global warming kicks in, pythons will be zipping into Alabama + Georgia before too long. Be afraid Elwood, be very afraid.

:finger: You don't get much more south than the Everglades.

 What, the worker's hand? Anyone's hands would look smallish attempting to wrap them around a 16 foot python.

You never heard the old joke that the further north you go in Florida the further "South" you get?

Oh yeah. That's why I like living well to the north of I-4. It is a nice, natural barrier. The exception though is the glades and the central part of the state around it. If the Everglades ain't deliverance country / Alabama-esque I dunno what is.

I have a simple solution to this. Stop allowing the importation of these exotic, non-native pets.

That would require government to act. And spend tax money.

Actually they are illegal in Florida. The state does have a bounty programs / hired hunters for these snakes. Problem is that the snakes are damned hard to find and there aren't enough professional hunters.

Personally I think it is stupid. Just open the everglades to unlimited python hunting, unlimited caliber, unlimited magazine capacity, and every dumb ass in the sate (including me) would be out there in an air boat blasting the bastards to the depths of hell.

I just watched this this past week.

I'm with frontline. Do like Texas has done with feral hogs and open up unrestricted hunting on those snakes.

Will no one think of the snakes?!?! :weep:

Here this monster is, spent countless decades growing to this impressive size only to be killed so some pipsqueek can feel free to roam the 'glades on a jetski.

Fuck that, I think they should leave them alone.

History is filled with specie that is now extinct due to people's fears.

Sounds ok to me...but isn't that what Australia did with wild dogs? As far as I know they're still running wild over the continent. How effective is the Texas program anyway? No agenda here...just askin'

Their animals. Depending on the species they can be hard to track. Now with hogs, they just breed faster than they can be killed. See even with unrestricted hunting on hogs (yep its that way in FL too), hunters aren't going to go into the woods and start blasting and see what drops dead. Plus there is the idea that if you aren't going to eat it you dont shoot it.

What we need is to line every hunter in the state, stand them about 20 meters a part shoulder to shoulder, and have them walk across the state, shooting the hogs that they see. :ramen:

So . . . dust off and nuke the site from orbit? It is, after all, the only way to be sure.
