So now that I've seen the video I still couldn't give a shit. I mean either way works for me. If the cops wanted to wait him out fine, if they decided they had better things to do and shot his ass because he wouldn't follow orders that's okay too. The story started off as Ian Burke responding to a call about a man walking around Seattle with a knife and then the guy lunging at officer Burke but once the facts came out it turned into a deaf Native American woodcarver being shot in the side four times as he 'ignored' Burke's commands.

Worse part of the whole thing is that his 3" pocket knife was found closed beside the piece of wood he was working on.

Well, I have to say: I don't see the need for shots to be fired there.

The guy isn't even out of the vehicle. It's hard to see how any move he made while still INSIDE was enough to prompt a shooting.

Maybe there's more to this story, but that doesn't look righteous to me.

A few eyewitnesses from my 'hood actually. So I've gotten a bit of inside viewpoints.

I'm kind of disappointed that the cops went straight to lethal. The one description is that the kid was holding the knife out with a straight arm and contained in the back of the vehicle. There's not much room in one of those streetcars to tussle. Looks like he lunged at the driver, but I hear no one obeyed when he ordered the passengers to stay on the car.

I daresay that over half of us here would have at least considered dropping him. At least anyone who has experience as a doorman and has likely had a knife or three pulled on him. Most of the passengers were hipster club kiddies returning from a rave, if that gives some indication of why even the guy that managed to keep a bicycle between him and the dead guy backed up and out. That guy had both a U lock and the goddamn bike!

I've heard various reports on the number of shots fired compared to hits, which is my biggest concern over this being a reasonable take down. I'm disappointed that the cops chose to shoot him when I know they are capable of defending against and subduing someone with a knife using the other tools and training provided.
