    I'm against it.

Nothing good can come from letting Tojo have a viable carrier fleet.

If any of those ships comes within 1000 miles of Pearl Harbor, they need to be sent to Davy Jones' locker.

That's like the young, bright-eyed IT manager, deciding that the company will just all use the same computer.

You build a capital aircraft carrier and you learn all kinds of things about what you should have/shouldn't have done. Also technology has moved along. So you don't want to be trapped into building something that was obsolete when it rolled out of the drydocks 10 years ago.

I think the deck is too short for catapults.

Good question. With the systems of today and BIM we should be able to come up with a master set of plans / model. Store them on a server. Then as technology changes, update the plans / models as needed. Then if we need to throw one into production, bid it, and start construction. Makes too much sense. Will never happen.

It's my understanding that the Japanese will be buying 35B's.
The elevator on that boat does look like it will handled those and the AV-8B.

You're kind of right. In the case of full sized carriers, the time it takes is the time it takes because of size and complexity. Helo carriers are about half the size, and therefore take about half the time to crank out. If we wanted to pump out LHD's, we could put those out quick.

The Japanese sure know how to construct ships in a way so no one notices. I like to think I keep abreast of these things, butI had very little foreknowledge of this. Its bigger than I thought, 812 feet long! That's as long as a World War II battleship!
