All the times I've heard or read "wog", it was British soldiers stationed in a furrin country referring in a disrespectful manner to the indigenous people. "Fookin wogs stole me digestives again!"
I occasionally see a fox and a coyote around here. And a bear. we're pretty close to the end of civilization, so to speak - it's only a couple of miles to where the NY metro/suburban sprawl ends and the mountains begin.
Bears ! That would be cool to see walking about the back garden, as long as you were looking out the window
I live in suburbia, about 20 miles from downtown St. Louis, and near (~.5 miles) a large State Park, and I've seen exactly one fox in my 15+ years living here and 50 years overall living in the area.
Maybe i should start taking pictures of them like forbin and his yard deer. Tons of foxes round here, and the road leading to my golf club has got plenty badgers. See a good few badger road kills every year on it
You Brits can make some kickass savory pies. The idea of having pie for something other than dessert is literally a foreign concept for us here.
Never heard of urban foxes. We get raccoons, possums, skunks, squirrels, and the true urban scourge, wild turkeys in my neighborhood. I often see deer at a nearby nature preserve. Otherwise, you hear now and then about a coyote sighting, and less frequently a bear makes its way in to the inner burbs, but never in to Boston proper. Foxes? Never a one.
Not true. I'm sure you've come across chicken pot pie. Then there's shepherd's pie and Yankee pot pie (Muad's favorite). These latter two pies might be a bit regional to the Northeast, but chicken pies are not.
Same here. It wasn't until a year ago that I found out that porcupines were around here. On our way to the Museum of the Pacific War, I saw two of them...as roadkill.
I've seen foxes before within city limits. My parents used to live close to the outskirts until rapid development took place. We used to see wildlife all the time but now not so much. Seems the Red Fox should be present in NYC too, according to the Wiki map: These: They are about the size of an adult boxing glove and they are not nice. My friend nearly stepped on a young badger while out shooting gophers. I've heard they will rip your balls off at the slightest provocation.
I've seen a badger in the wild once. Was out for a walk in Wisconsin (the badger state) and one poked its head out of its burrow to see what was up. I quickly and politely walked backwards until it was out of sight.
Except last week I stepped out the front door to get the mail at 5PM, and there was one standing on the neighbor's lawn 50 feet away. That gets your blood pumping.
