Don't know if anyone noticed but after the first shot of Keaton is a screen showing the original RoboCop suit. A suggested design I would assume.

Also, the silver version of the suit in the trailer looks quite faithful. I'll give it a go. After all I sat through RoboCop 3 and that was utterly atrocious.

A known actor has an audience, an established fan base, a history of success . . . .

I have to grudgingly admit, this does have potential. Ballsy new take on the man vs. machine question posed in the original film.

I am unimpressed by the trailer. I guess it is good they changed some things. Otherwise there isn't much reason to to a remake. But I didn't think the changes were particularly good.

Holy sweet Jesus, that looks fucking awful!!! It's tame and generic, which is NOT how you remake a Verhoeven film.

This one is going to flop harder than the Total Recall remake last year.

I do really like the "who's really in charge of his actions?" angle.

And Michael Keaton is a refreshing bit of casting.

    How else to remake it?
You can't make the same movie again.
    We've already got that movie.
The Gus Van Sant "Psycho", is a textbook case of what not to do.

They've stripped it down to the basic idea, and done something else with it.

A movie about a robotic policeman, what would you call it?

    I'll give it a chance.

    It's a different movie.
    More like Robocop 2.0.

Now, if you want a fresh dose of the violence, grit, and social satire of the Verhoven version, check out "Dredd".

I got bored and watched the 2012 remake again recently... I think I liked it a little more than when I watched it in theaters, but it is still no where near as good as the original.

The "Dead or alive, you're coming with me" line at the end of trailer really fell flat.

Peter Weller had much better delivery.

Hard to say from the trailer if OCP has a significant hand in getting Murphy blowed up. Clearly his wife is in on them turning him into a cyborg. And he retains his identity. I think the whole drama of Robocop struggling to get back his humanity in spite of all he's lost is one of the strongest bits in the original movie. I can't imagine it being as exciting the route they're going.

Looks like a competent actioner. However, remakes of Verhoeven movies usually completely miss the whole satire thing.

The original "Robocop" was full of then past & future Trek performers. Miguel Ferrer was the Excelsior's helmsman in TSFS, Kurtwood Smith later played Thrax on DS9 & Annorax on VOY, Captain Jellico from TNG, and of course Paxton from ENT/Admiral Marcus from STiD.

I like the original because ED-209 looked so much like a Battletech Urbanmech.

Goes with my collections of "mech footage".

You thought ED-209 looked like an Urbie? I didn't see that at all. If anything it looked like a King Crab.

fair point. I'll admit to being far more familiar with 3025 (Succession Wars) Era mechs than Star League Era machines.
