New-Old Logo

Hi Shelter,

I am thinking we should go with the following logo:



A lot of people seem to like this one, and it isn't a huge change from the current one, just a bit updated. And as we all know, Wordforgers fear nothing except change.

The logo thread has sat, undisturbed for a week, and unless I bump it, people seem to like offering critiques but in the end, I don't really think they care all that much.

I'd just like to move forward with something so I can start doing banners, posters, and other things that will hopefully drive people here. Because as we all know, "Wordforge is dying".

Just change it.

If it's hated, we'll find out about it. I'd just wait a day or two after posting it before going hog wild with projects unless you don't mind having to do them again if it turns out people are insanely against this logo.

Oh I'm sure there will be whining, bitching and complaining, and lots of hand wringing from the people who tell us we are TYRANTS......Damn TYRANTS! for choosing a logo without hearing everyone's opinion.

Fact is, I've bumped the thread, and other logo threads, several times, and all that happens is people either say it suxxx, or give their own take on it, only to have the thread die a few days later and left to drop down the forum list.

If I had my way, I'd just put the fireball logo on and be done with it, but it seems the one me and J. Allen came up with has the least amount of opposition (and the least amount of change.)

It's better than the pure garbage Borgs hacked together and which sits atop every page of the forum, much to my everlasting disappointment. Anything would be better than that, actually.

By the way, I can't get into the place to change logos. Someone else will have to do it.

You should PM the logo to Order2Chaos and ask him to change it when he has a moment.

Here's mine: Switch to the new logo. It ain't perfect, the W isn't capitalized, the F is and it looks like it's deflating, but it's a definite improvement. Nice job!

Do you want to generate a dark-theme version of that too before I change it? There's an intermittent one-pixel white border around the flame that would look fairly hideous against blue or black backgrounds.

It would be nice if it's in shape for all the backgrounds...it's supposed to be an improvement after all.

The current logo also has a dark-theme version as well, with the same change. I assume it's difficult to get one version that looks good on both.

I'll get on it. There are a few things that J.Allen did wrong, now that I have downloaded and examined the file. Nothing serious, just stuff someone not doing it as a career would do. Speaking of which, he really should think about doing this as a job. He's got enough raw talent, and we could always use another graphic designer on WF.

Oh, while you're at it, the bottoms of the separate bits of the flames [-]have the worst banding I've ever seen[/-] are just the wrong color. The main part of the flame also has dithering-looking banding that the current one doesn't have. The current flames are also a bit wider and possibly shorter.

In case it's been missed, there are two versions of the logo, called "wordforge.gif" and "wordforgedark.gif" IIRC. You have to change both of them to get all the skins. I do it on the server, not thru the admin panel.

I believe O2C is the only person other than me with server access, tho Kyle and Nick also probably still have access.

Is there a way we can have the server image be a hotlink to the image? And have the image point to somewhere, like maybe a folder in the Gallery only mods and admins can access?

(It might also be fun to let users access this folder and change the logo at their whim for a month or so and see what they come up with.)

I don't like having to pester, prod, and beg a technical admin to change the logo. Who knows when they will get to it? Plus, they probably have more important things to take care of, like twiddling their thumbs and waiting for an attack by the Chinese.

You've been a WFer forever...you know what would happen.

Some awesome and fun logos would go up and just as quickly would be replaced with trolling, gross or pornish logos.

Now, if you want to have an ongoing thread in the Workshop where people can post new logo ideas whenever they have them, that would be cool.

I'm all for it! It'd be nice to change the logo from time to time. Worse case scenario, the logo is changed back.

Well, the one now is the one we changed it to, which was really just what the logo was supposed to be before Borgs messed around with it and made the atrocity that upset $corp so much.

I'm not against periodic changes though...fresh designs can be fun.

We had a logo "contest" awhile ago and people just couldn't decide on anything. We'd get two or three votes for someone's suggestion, and another 1 or 2 for someone else's. Some of them were atrocious. And the thread would sit there undisturbed for weeks before someone bumped it up with their suggestion.

In the end, we figured people just couldn't come to a consensus and I decided to just update the logo from that piece of shit Borgs threw up in haste and turn it into what it was suppose to be in the first place. I think the only thing I significantly changed about it was making the letters look more metally.
