I've been meeting more and more people that have done away with FB for that reason. Folks are growing tired of the intrusion and knowing every aspect of everyone's lives.

Ok, I'm late to this thread but I'll give my 2 cents just in case there is some plan I don't know about to integrate FB into the new board.

There is a difference between FB and a BBS, namely that on FB you can individually choose who to befriend and restrict what they see as you see fit. You can also block or avoid people at your choosing. As it is, without mentioning names, I know that some of the people on the WF FB are there under fake FB accounts set up most likely to access the personal info of other WFers without revealing themselves, so it's clear from the word go that some people out there don't want to come out from behind the curtain no matter what. At a BBS you wouldn't have any of these controls.

On Facebook I have friends and family. People who are close to me in real life. I don't want that mixed with a place like this. What's more I most certainly don't want engage the potential to be tracked down to a board like this by colleagues or especially clients. Some of the backwards opinions or bigotry that goes on here is not something I would care to be associated with from the perspective of people I act for or do business with and so I prefer to keep things separate.

Plus, frankly, I am one of those who doesn't act the same here are in real life. Some people here have a great deal of stress in their lives and this place is a way to cool down and escape it. I'm not nearly as cuntish and blunt in real life as I am here because, well, I'm not really that sort of person. This place allows me to de-stress and let some shit out when I have the time to do so. You integrate it fully into other aspects

Finally, as others have said, after seeing what has happened to Dayton, and seeing the complete meltdown of the likes of John Castle over pictures, I think there are people here who are all too ready to use personal info against others - yes it's usually those who hide themselves more - and that could result in a place less palatable than it already is, which doesn't strike me as a good idea of the new owners intend to try and recruit new people.

Based on what we have recently learned in your diary thread I find that hard to believe.

I suspect 99% of Wordforge members wouldn't abuse another members personal info, yet there is always that 1%, ruining it for the rest of us. :shakefist:

It can have real life consequences too, Mrs. Clyde and I have had our identity stolen twice, and believe you me identity theft is quite a costly affair. It's why I've always been so pro-privacy when it comes to Wordforge.

Well, this new one isn't working out for you, quite frankly. If I were you, I would try to get the old one back.

Facebook's privacy policies seem to change more often than the weather.

A few months ago, I warned an acquaintance of mine that he might want to be careful what websites he's visiting while logged in on FB. He's married, but he was visiting some dating websites that were linked to FB and it was showing up on the FB news feed.

Over the past couple of weeks, I've learned one of my friends' tastes in music (fairly harmless, right?) and her tastes in some very sexy lingerie because the websites and items she's shopping are showing up on the feed. That could potentially be embarrassing.

I'm starting to regard FB more as a trojan or virus than social media.

They have a button to click that will stop the FB suggestions. :garamet:

    Easy fix.

Muad and his friends might not be as tech savvy as you are. It's really quite easy to avoid tying your Facebook life to your extra curricular shenanigans.

That's the point. There's stuff showing up on my feed that I never used to see.

I've got my FB security all set pretty tight, but sometimes this stuff shows up because your friends don't have their security set tight.
