Really, Hollywood? Bill fucking Gates will give you the for this great offer! But I'd really like to taste the stuff these people are smoking.
If I were (very) wealthy, I would go for that. Imagine having a dozen friends over on a Saturday night and watching a just-released movie in a really good home theater...
Talking to the wrong guy. When I get a theater all to myself, and able to get the middle seat of the middle aisle, I'm in ecstatic bliss. The second so much as one other person wanders in, it's ruined. Doesn't matter how far away from me they are, I can SEE them.
For that kind of money I'd rent a Cineplex, watch the movie on a really big screen and destroy the place in a wild orgy afterwards. Same price, more fun
This will appeal to those with more money to waste than they know what to do with. $35k isn't a whole hell of a lot. I bet you some of my friends in finance would think it's a drop in the bucket compared with what they make currently. That's probably a better idea. A theater that seats 200 people, and at $13 a ticket, that would be $2600 a night. You'd have to do this 13 times before it adds up to $35k and I think I'd be bored of it after the 5th or 6th time.
The 35k are somewhat understandable, especially since the target group will have home cinemas costing 10 times that. That's OK. $500 (!) for ONE MOVIE you must watch within 24 hours like the rabble who rents it a few months later are not. I don't think the overlap between the 'very stupid' and 'very rich' groups is big enough to sustain this company.
$500 isn't going to get you a theater, at least not in the States, where they make their money off the overpriced popcorn and such. Even if it did, there'd still be a large market for this amongst celebrities. If a famous person has 10 fans who approach them when they go out in public, if you have 4 famous folks who want to go to dinner and a movie together, they're going to be mobbed by 40 people during the course of their evening. That makes it hard to have a conversation with your friends. This let's you catch the latest film in peace, and enables you to wave your wallet at the same time. Right now, you can bet that celebs are doing something similar, only they're having their contacts at the studios get them the movie for free, or they're having one of their assistants bootleg it for them.
