Why god? Why not aliens or people from the future?

Why ascribe something very unlikely to a deity that you already believe in when the odds are its just as likely to be some other highly unlikely intervention?

    And which God?

(I forget which show it was even on now, but it was one of the Fox cartoons)
But there was a scene where a character thanks Jesus, then up in Heaven, Jesus goes "but it wasn't m..", and Krishna cuts him off, and pats him on the shoulder, and goes "it's okay, I'm used to it".

Ah, another sanctimonious Christian, casting judgement from on high.

Well, at least you are consistent.

    James 4:12
There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you--who are you to judge your neighbor?

    Async - that's who! LOL.

And funny, am I not the one in this thread saying explicitly that doctors are the healers? That we should credit them instead of the grace of god for the betterment of the healing arts? I certainly have cause to dislike quite a few doctors personally, but as usual you are dealing completely in darkness and light, and don't understand shades of grey.

Why would god intervene to fix a broken or infected human... surely not allowing the malady to occur would make more sense....

Have you not noticed the average doctor's hand writing skillz? It's like Michael J. Fox on a pogo stick.
That sandwich would be chock full of fail.

...except for MD Anderson in Houston. ;)

Both are tied for best in the nation. It'd be a toss up for me, but I'd go to one of then.

Here's pulling for you, you old coot. I'll be praying for you too, and I don't care whether you like it or not! :D

While my wife was going thru her cancer scare, many family and friends were saying they'll pray for her. I took it the same as them saying "good luck" "Hope she's okay" - it's well-wishes, however it's spoken, and I appreciated it.

It didn't change either of our agnostic little minds that she's okay now. The doctors did good is all.

I don't know how to say this without coming off selfish. I want to see Maud Dib post in a thread other than this one. I've heard so much about him, but know nothing of his posting style. I too want to see Teh Baba's posting style. I'm told he is similar to me and have been called his dual, but never actually seen his posts. It would be great if you once again piss these guys off.

I think that you're misreading him. Demi has never struck me as bitter and angry.

There may be times when someone is going through a rough time (physically or emotionally) and be temporarily showing a bad humor, but again, Demi has never come off to me as bitter and angry.

Telling someone you'll pray and not helping when it's obvious that there is a need is unChristian to those of the Christian persuasion. It's rather insulting to God to act like that if you're Christian.

Understood. I wish I could have been here back in the day, but unfortunately, up until 2009, I was a retarded liberal as well.

Man...I try not to be a pessimist, but I haven't seen good results with cancer in my family. Well, that isn't true. My Dad managed around 7 years after being diagnosed. And my Mom got pancreatic cancer, which you really don't get better from--not even with Steve Jobs $; certainly not if you decide to go with the best care the hick Wisconsin town you live in has.

That said, when I moved back from Hawaii in 2009, I had an acquaintance who had the Lance Armstrong type of cancer--aggressive, stage 4(?) and metastasized to other parts of her body--and she beat it. For that matter, I guess I have a teenage cousin who's had no sign of cancer for over 5 years so they're cautiously calling her "cured."

As for prayer, there's a proverb about being at sea during a storm: "Pray. But keep rowing towards shore." For whatever reason, as religious as my Mom was, she hadn't engaged anyone in praying for her. I got the call to come home because it was "time" and that if I didn't hurry, I wouldn't make it. And when I got there, she was in bad shape. I got her out of the nursing home and started telling friends and acquaintances her condition and asking them to pray for her and she improved steadily for the 3 months that I put my life on hold. She wound up lasting a over a month longer than the initial prognosis and many months longer than it looked like when she was at death's door. There are plenty of rational explanations for why this happened, but if the power of prayer isn't going to interfere, it seems foolish not to use it along with other medical treatments.

So yeah. Praying for you, man.

Just as a sidebar, I remember when I first encountered Muad--it was 2004, so he was regularly railing at what a shitty totalitarian President Dubya was and I discounted him as a barking moonbat Leftie. Then 2008 rolled around and he proceeded to rail at what a shitty totalitarian President Obama was and I realized he was the real deal and just didn't like shitty totalitarian Presidents.

Steve Jobs trusted in alternate medicine bullshit though.
Which is stunning, because you'd think a guy like him would be pro-science.

It's a wonder he managed to live seven years after diagnosis. Mortality rate is 75 percent after one year and that other 25 is dead by five.

Yup. With pancreatic cancer, you might as well turn to faith healing, prayer, holistic medicine, acupuncture, voodoo--whatever. Because Western Medicine doesn't beat it usually. Usually by the time they diagnose it, there isn't anything they can do.

And who'd have thought you needed a pancreas?! I thought it was one of those vestigial things like tonsils or an appendix. Your heart pumps blood. Your lungs oxygenate blood. Your stomach and guts digest food. Your liver processes alcohol. What the hell does a pancreas do!?

Regulates blood glucose, which is why when it starts to fail you end up with diabetes. And Jobs apparently had a rare form of pancreatic cancer with a much better mortality rate. Still an idiot to think he could wish it away by juicing.

Cancer has been in my family. As mentioned before, my dad had it in the late 80s. For him it was waaaaaaaaaaay too late by the time he found out. My mom fought it for 20 years. I'm probably going to get it. I continue to smoke and live unhealthy. I think some of it has to with chemicals that we all ingest. It is what what it is, the best you can do is fight it as much as you can. In the end, it's going to get you, unless you get hot by a buss in between.

I repeat, I don't know you Maud, but I wouldn't wish that shit on even garamet. Just based on the past few weeks of this thread and what some have said, you seem pretty cool( despite your rep here.) I can only wish you the best and hope you fight the shit out of it. Just pretend it's a bunch of Yankee fucks.

:nono: on the smoking part. Yeah chemicals are everywhere today, but it's no reason to say fuck it and inhale the fluids you'll be embalmed with, IMO.
