There isn't any proof in the Bible. The Bible mentions heaven, but it does not provide any proof of the existence of heaven, hell, or even about the talking snake. A talking snake would be totally kick ass.

There is only one heaven, but it is heavily segregated, which you learn when St. Peter gives you the inevitable tour that always ends in a punchline.

    You've got to have faith.

"The substance of things hoped for. The evidence of things not seen".

Why do you believe in the Big Bang Theory as how the universe was created?

Did you do original research that was then peer reviewed?

I would say that you learned it ...........out of a book!!

You mean I'm better at it than you are. That post was gibberish, and your usual :goalposts:. You may fool others into arguing with you for pages, but you know I'll dismiss you when you try it with me.

Moral and ethical? Well, then we get back to Matthew 25:40. Legal? Reagan: 1986.

They have just as a valid reason to be true as the Bible is claimed to be. In fact much more so as other religions have existed longer than Christianity. Not only that, but many of the stories in the Bible can be found in other religions. The only logical conclusion is that the Bible isn't true (since many of the stories exist in other older religions) or that the Bible writers stole those stories and claimed them as their own.

    Oh yeah. Case closed.

Matthew reference refers to individual acts. Not forced government action.

Reagan was wrong in 1986 and almost all his supporters fully acknowledge that.

You have no proof any of those religions are older than the Bible. For all you know they copied from the Bible instead of vice versa.

There exists proof of the Big Bang, tangible evidence that can be reproduced and proven through math and scientific knowledge. I can read peer reviewed papers, research, and compare the findings to others who have found the same evidence. I can go and find and review data that shows the universe is still expanding.

Have you done original research that anything in the Bible is true? Have you been outside just minding your own business when a bush caught on fire and started talking to you? Have you ever seen someone walk on water? Can you reproduce evidence that someone can walk on water that is in a liquid state without any flotation devices?

    I see.

In other words you read it in a book, that book conforms to your worldview, thus you believe what's in the book.

    Same as me Ed.

There is ample proof that there religions older than Christianity, Hinduism for example is 2000 years older. There exists physical proof in the form of ancient texts.

Not the same. You brought it up, there exists research that can be reproduced with the same proven results. The research has been peer reviewed and proven. I've read Bible, there isn't any shed of proof for the existence of any of those. There is difference between faith and research that has been proven.

Ancient texts don't mean anything. IIRC most were handed down orally initially.

If there weren't older religions, why does the Bible talk endlessly about how evil the misguided followers were?

My position is that the Bible directs Christians to assist those less fortunate.

The Bible DOES DIRECT government action to assist those less fortunate.

So, there is no ethical or moral reason for a Christian to support government action to assist those less fortunate. As long as they assist on their own as their conscience directs them.

I hope that explains it to you.

    Let me guess...

    As when you said this.

Are you saying that you only accept proof when it supports your view or side. Because those ancient texts exist, have been verified to be authentic, and are still used. After all the Bible is nothing more than a collection of ancient texts from different people.

All through the Bible. They were fighting Canaanites, who had a different religion, Egyptians, who had a different religion, Philistines, who had a different religion, Assyrians, who had a different religion, Persians, who had a different religion, and among themselves, because some of them had a different religion and worshiped gold figurines. All those other religions, by the way, also had creation stories.

Yo, yo, yo, allow me to introduce you to my homie, da Big QZ, better known by his Mesoamerican name, Quetzalcoatl. He was worshipped from approximately 100 BC to 1519 AD, and you can call him a "feathered serpent," but he was human, too, and he was a "special" kind of god, you see?

Some of the tales about his birth, have him being born of a virgin, dig that shit:
And after he walked the Earth, preachin' his message and doin' miraculous shit, you know what happened to his ass? It got crucified!

But its all good, 'cause he pulled a zombie and came back to life!

And all of this shit can be found in things which were around before 1492. So tell me, my good man, if this shit can be found in a foreign land, written by a guy who never met a Jew, how can either story of Jesus or the Big QZ be true?

Tell you what, Dayton, my man, I'll make you the best offer I can: If you're willing to read a book, and post what you've read, I'll be willing to shell out the bread. I'll buy this tome, and send it to you. It was written by a guy, in about 1892. He quotes Christian scholars, about what they say is true: Namely that lots of folks had stories about guys who were like Jesus, and all of them believed that they were true.

I know what you'll say, that I can go screw, but I tell you right here and right now, if your belief in god is so strong, you've got nothing to fear. Even better, all of the works he cites, are in the public domain, so you can check to see if he's right. So, what do you say, Dayton, my man? Are you ready to give it all that you can? BTW, if you're worried that I might instead ship you "teh ghey," you can always find the work on good ol' Google Books for free. So, what's it going to be?
