I'm seriously considering moving to Belgium. and no mosquitos is a huge bonus.

It will be many years from now. But, retiring there does sound great. In my next life, I'll be born in a much more people friendly environment. I love Bernie, but I think it's too late for him to turn the tide of the rise of the Oligarchy here in the US.

Meh, we have few insects here due to the dry climate but screens cost very little and even one buzzing fly or biting mosquito can be annoying so why not have them?

I mean they cost like $25 per window and are good for like 30 years.

Worst place for mosquitos I've ever encountered so far is Alaska. Then again when I lived in northern Wisconsin surrounded by swamps and lakes, they were holy shit bad there too. For whatever reason they are not too bad in most parts of Georgia. Even when I used to fish a lot here, they were never a fraction as bad as Wisconsin/Alaska.

The worse place I was ever for mosquitos was Dermott, Arkansas. Their head coach warned us at the Junior High game the night before at Strong "better bring bug spray" so I got a couple of bottles.

I wore long sleeves and gloves, despite it being 85 degrees at game time. When I rolled up my left sleeve to check the time I got bitten multiple times.

I sprayed all the exposed places on my players. Legs, arms, neck. and sprayed their hands so they could rub it on their faces. Then the cheerleaders started wanting bug spray.

Everything went well the first half. Unfortunately sweat and light rain put paid to the bug spray and I was all out so the second half was miserable for my kids.

Southern Alaska in late August wasn't so bad. Summer in the woods of Minnesota is nasty for mosquitos and black flies.

I was in the interior (near Fairbanks) and it is pretty bad there. Minnesota is about on par with northern Wisconsin but black flies (no see um's) weren't bad at least near my house, only mosquitos.

Worst places I've been for mosquitoes and gnats were the woods of Minnesota around Camp Wilderness and Many Point Scout Ranch, and the sloughs around where I grew up. My very first job was to fix fence in a slough, so you can imagine how fun it was for me to carry all my posts, wire, and tools in on foot while the bugs ate me alive.

Well I'll say this for the British- When I visit Britain, I'm stunned by the hospitality. I remember saying to my friends, "Is everybody in this country that damned nice?" That being said however, the maid just let herself in to my room during my last time (it's her job; I know) but it would have been American kosher for her to knock first. That was eerily creepy. I suddenly looked up and there's this young lady standing there asking if I wanted the room vacuumed. lol

Interesting... I always thought the South/Southeast would be Insect Hell.

Certain areas are - 1/4 mile away, you can't find one. And sometimes high & dry areas have them, but next to a lake doesn't. Ten years living here in Georgia and I've never used bug spray. I even scout for the upcoming deer season in the summertime, and don't wear it (except Permathrin for ticks, those carry a lot of diseases!) That said I do use a Thermacell (portable mosquito fogger) when actually hunting because I can't be moving around swatting occasional mosquitos. Whoever invented this should get a Nobel Prize!

The one and only time I spent time outdoors in Louisiana and sat in one place longer than ten minutes, I got completely bitten up on my feet.

If you were in Louisiana why weren't your feet hidden in the mud?

A couple of evenings ago I was deer hunting, sitting on my bucket minding my own business, and tiny ants started crawling all over me!
I must have stirred them up when I was building my improvised ground blind. Thankfully they were not fire ants, or any type of ant that bites. But they were very annoying!

Mosquitoes rarely bother me. I can sit around in shorts and a T-shirt without getting bit, while everyone else around me gets bitten. Just last night at the dog park the mosquitoes were sort of heavy, there were a few other people there and they were all getting bit. They weren't even interested in me.

I'm glad ticks and chiggers aren't a problem this time of year. Weird it's the same type of weather as it has been since May, but you rarely run into them now, just late spring and early summer.
But you still have to watch for those damn dirty orb-weaving spiders. Some types make HUGE webs that go from tree-to-tree across the trail and the spiders have a knack for hanging at head level.

If Georgia legalized marijuana those won't be so much of a problem.

Really, this is a bit of bullshit. I've said the same about everywhere I've gone, save for my hometown. It's both in the eye of the beholder and the choice of destination.

I'll see your bullshit and raise you one piss. I personally found the French to be total inglorious assholes. I hope I never wind up in that country again.
