women who have abortions due to pregnancies from rape and women who have abortions due to medical reasons are also an extreme minority.

Yet the abortion rights crowd holds them up as crowning examples to support their argument.

In many European nations abortion rights are considerably more restrictive than the U.S.

    Ireland for example.

Are you suggesting those nations are not civilized.

Notice (I know it's hard for you to pay attention to detail) that I said "I don't even know one guy" thus stating nobody I know would ever physically abuse a woman or try to control them in any way, let alone convince them to abort a child. Hey, I'm not judging - maybe you hang around guys like that, but I don't. Everyone I know is a total winner/stud and women gravitate to them because they have the genes to make make good babies and can financially support those babies. Everyone I know would kick the living dog-shit out of any (so called) male who would batter a woman - or most likely just kill anyone who batters a woman. Again, your mileage may vary.

    Lemme put it another way:

None of those examples involve any part of my life, nor do my opinions pay to raise that kid.

Pro choice is just that: accepting of all life choices. No one is forced to get an abortion if they don't want one. Many pro choice people are personally unwilling to abort as Muad Dib was but they don't pretend to assume their life choice should be forced on anyone else. As it should be.

"Many"? As far as I'm aware, Ireland is the only Western nation with such draconian laws. That they're so progressive in every other way makes the RCC's grip on their politics that much more baffling.

But Ireland to its credit has a crazy stupid welfare system that pays more per child per year than I make at my job now, so few kids will be starving or homeless.

More transparent bullshit on your part. What a shocker! How many times have I stated that I could care less if the State marries gay people, triads, or whatever collection of misfits that wants to get together? I do not and I am not against it in any way, shape, or form. Why? Because it isn't real. Regardless, they have a right to engage in whatever fantasy they wish to as long as it isn't hurting other people. Grow up moron.

How would you feel if you were told you couldn't have a child? That you needed permission to have had your daughter? No one should be restricted to make personal choices that will affect them financially, socially, or any other way because someone else feels that their choice is wrong.

I'm mixed on abortion, I don't think it the best solution, and that I wouldn't make the decision to abort. But that is my personal choice, I couldn't do it. But I don't think I have the right to make that decision for someone else, and I certainly don't think I have the right to force someone else to abide by my own personal belief. If someone I know decides to abort, that is their choice, and I don't have any say in the matter, and further more I don't have the right to tell them they're wrong. No one does.

If a person truly believes in what they claim are their moral values, they should want to see those values put into action in the society they live in shouldn't they.

Ah, see, that can be a virtuous thing, but at the same time, it's also how terrorists work. It all depends on the context. In this case, the woman, who will be carrying the fetus, is being forced to carry it, and if you do follow those so-called moral values, that includes women who are raped. They get to carry the fetus, one created by sexual violence, and against her will. Your so-called moral values have forced her to obey your moral edicts against her will. You have made her a slave to your religion, a baby making machine that serves at the whim of the State.

No. Everyone has different moral values, to expect everyone to conform to the same values that have is something they may want, but not realistic. I have my own values, but I don't expect others to follow them or have the same ones. Why would I want someone to be exactly like me, that's ridiculous, unrealistic, and boring.

It's not many and I've been to Ireland 3 times - I actually have a British passport - and I found it unfortunate how religion has held that country back for so long.

How many times have you been?

Ass monkey, I'm not talking about the droolers in your personal circle, it's a big world and contains more then the five buddies you group jerk with to old Whitesnake videos.

I work for a not for profit that runs a few shelters among other things, and they are packed, filled with harrowing stories of dominance through violence.

No one cares dipshit. Your church with a whopping attendance of seven doesn't matter at all. He's talking about a country. Your response is on the same level if you were asked about the housing crash from a few years back and you answered "I've played Monopoly thousands of times". And you wonder why people think you're autistic and an idiot.

I would be more than willing to support the following:

Paid for with a tax increase.

    1) Free birth control for every person in the United States.

    2) Free prenatal care for every pregnant women in the United States

    3) Free adoption services for every person adopting a baby in the United States

    4) And perhaps dramatically raising the child income tax credit for every child in the United States.

    I don't like it.

Generally I'm not for giving people anything.

But I'm realistic. If you want to radically reduce the number of elective abortions you can't simply dictatorially forbid it.

At the very least you need to eliminate the economic justifications for elective abortions.

I see Team BabyMurder is still going spastic because Dayton dared to suggest that abortion on demand as convenience birth control should be eliminated.

I enjoy watching their hysteric convulsions.

They can't defend the morality of sucking a baby out of the womb and severing it's spinal cord.

So they result to non-sequitors and red herrings.

"You only care about the unborn child, you don't care about it once it's born!!!11!!! "

Totally untrue, but it's always regurgitated by Team BabyMurder ad nauseum whenever these debates spring up.

Any argument that has at it's core the limitations of The State to provide resources or financial assistance to women post-birth has as it's logical conclusion...China.

That's China's rationale for the "one-baby" policy. Overcrowding, lack of resources, limited financial means of parents.

    Re: Free adoption services

Outside of the abortion conversation, can you imagine how many fewer kids would be in orphanages/foster care if this were the case? It blows my mind. I think that in a lot of ways, because caring for children is such a powerful issue for most people, we get lost in what would be ideal to the point where we are robbing a lot of kids of a good life. Not perfect, but good.

I can't argue any of that.

There are other reasons people have abortions beyond finances, though. My aunt had one because she and her first husband were struggling to care for the child they had and the asshole was strung out on drugs. No way would she bring another child into that mess. A friend of mine who is a super awesome, smart, funny person has had three because she felt like her family would support her decision to be a single mom and had issues growing up because her parents were forced to get married after what I assume what was going to be a hit-and-run by her sailor dad resulting in her :P and while her mom didn't want to get married, the family pushed. That's a hell of a burden to have to carry. :(
