Over in the Rogue One thread, Tuckerfan detailed the technological advances that would enable new episodes (or movies) based around past characters to be produced. Which shows would you like to see continued or remade? For me: 1) Complete the original Star Treks five year mission with seasons four and five, 26 episodes each. 2) Complete the five year story arc of Babylon 5 Crusade with additional seasons. Four seasons of 20-22 episodes each would be optimal but its entirely possible to complete the story with fewer episodes. 3) Revive and continue the original Battlestar Galactica. 4) Complete second seasons for both Space: Above & Beyond and Terra Nova. 5) There are some proposed episodes of The Big Bang Theory that I would like to see made. 6) A two part crossover of Bonanza and The Big Valley.
True but I was uncertain what term to apply as "old" wouldn't really be the case with several I mentioned either.
In general, I would like to see any new productions to feature current actors rather than fake different, older faces for them. I could see doing the latter here or there as a stunt one-off amidst a larger production, but when you're hiring a whole new cast for a show, just let the new cast play their roles.
I'd like to see Berserk adapted to anime using actual good modern animation techniques and not shitty CGI, does that count?
A crossover between TOS, 1960's Batman, Dynasty and Dallas. JR Ewing in the centre seat of the Enterprise, rushing in to save Kirk and Spock from the Riddler's dastardly plan, whilst Batman runs through Southfork with a fizzing Tribble trying to dispose of it before it explodes, but the cattle keep getting in the way. And then Vincent Price's Egghead turns up with the Klingon military. At that point Alexis Carrington wakes up, only to find Kirk in the shower and calling her Edith. I'm assuming this is a comedy thread, right?
Crusade was ass, they had a cringe-y X-files episode and I wanted to pistol-whip the techno mage. As for things I'd like to see redone or continued, I'd like an Alien Nation continuation, I know it got a pseudo second season in the form of straight to showtime movies, but I'd like to see more from that universe. Other than that, I think Space:Above and Beyond got shafted, and, well, just about every other sci-fi program that ever had the misfortune of running on FOX.
I remember watching the piss-poor virtual reality weapons system and trying, so very desperately trying, to like the show. Great idea, executed shittily. Doing chop socky in a VR tank to fire weapons?
That wasn't on Crusade. That was a Babylon Five related television movie "Legend of the Rangers" produced as a potential pilot for a new show.
You're still right. It was awful. (the virtual reality weapons control) I remember reading that even the cast and crew of Legend of the Rangers thought it was crap when they saw it in the final version. Needless to say that is not how they thought it would end up looking.
I'd agree that Space: Above and Beyond deserves a do-over. Maybe get one of the original actors to replace the CO for a connecting link to the original. Take a page from BSG and have prominent deck crew and commando squad casts for rotating the A-B-C story lines to keep the characters less mary sue. Alien Nation also deserves a second chance, and I think the films similar to it, such as District 9, could speak to the contemporary setting and sensibility. The aliens in the original despite having been political prisoners, weren't deeply defined through that experience. A modern allegory to the waves of refugees, often motivated by concerns of conscience/belief, and their struggle in America "today" could be cutting commentary with the right show runners.
Come on, you've got an entitled, sex-addicted, white dude in his midlife-crisis-mobile, roaring through the galaxy punching people, shagging anything that moves. He's got Spock and his nerve-pinching roofy mojo, Bones to fix up the aliens STDs, and a raft of mini-skirted women to pussy-grope in-between boldly penetrating races no man had penetrated before. Pffft, surprised the running joke wasn't "what do you tell Janice Rand with two black eyes? Nothing Creepy Kirk ain't already told her twice!" What's not to hate?
If you look accurately at Kirk's sex life is was actually rather conservative by 1960s and 70s standards.
