Just my opinion, I could be wrong, probably am. Like I said just an opinion. I think the national GOP, basically the Senators and Representatives plan to make at least a show of supporting President Trump due to worries about alienating his supporters. For the time being. But in February of 2019, the GOP Congress will for the most part support efforts by Democrats (currently more or less on the fringes) to impeach and remove President Trump from office. 1) If the GOP suffers mid term losses, they can make the case for moving against Trump for political expediency. 2) It puts the Democrats in a box. they'll have spent more than two years ranting and raving about President Trump. What are they going to do? Pass up a chance to remove him from office? 3) It will give a President Pence an opportunity to reinforce his political position and prepare for a presidential race in 2020. Or select someone as his Vice President favored by the regular GOP and give them a leg up to run in 2020. 4) By allowing President Trump to remain fully two years in office, it can't be said that he didn't get a real chance to prove he was at least somewhat capable of doing the job. While that might not make his supporters happy, it might keep them from taking to the streets. . Maybe I'm simply an optimist.
I don't think they'll impeach him unless they absolutely have to. They've tied their political fortunes to his success, for better or worse.
Unless, as @Eightball suggests, there's some monstrously clever'n'perfect Russian operation capable of blackmailing the leaders, I'd say they will impeach the bugger without hesitation should the circs arise. After all, Donald isn't an ideologue like them. (He's in it to jack off his ego, period.) Whereas Pence is one of them. Once shot of Donald, they have someone much less outrageous and much more reliable to carry out their programme.
dude, i laid out how they'll likely watch and suffer until the midterms around two hours after his inauguration. on the other hand, today's press conference really brings the 25th amendment to mind. that raving lunatic does more harm than good even to his own party. it's not even what he does but how he does it.
Well, asked for comment on Trump's batshit insane address yesterday, one Congressman said he didn't think it'd make much difference: "the folk who love him will love him more, the folk who hate him will hate him more, and the folk in the middle will do what most of us in Congress are doing, which is realising that this is the new normal". Sorry, it shouldn't be normal for a President to be, as another Hill source said (paraphrased), "doing on TV what he should be doing with his therapist".
Here's one GOPper with some balls (which unfortunately he got caught bringing into contact with a lady who was not his wife): http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2017/02/mark-sanford-profile-214791
OP assumes Pence can avoid being tainted by Trump scandals. You can't serve that closely for two years and not know what's going on.
