His personal issues aside, Gibson is a terrific director and if he wanted to make a film in the comic book genre, I'd welcome it.

Agreed, as long as he gets the characters. I wouldn't exclude Eastwood just because he's a republican.

Just don't let him date your daughter, and don't invite him to a bar mitzvah, and everything will be fine.
He's not my favorite human being, but he's Oscar caliber.
Like South Park said "dammit if the crazy bastard doesn't understand story!".

Negotiations just broke down with Matt Reeves.
Man, if DC didn't have bad luck, they'd have no luck at all.

Ridley Scott is apparently interested in the job. I'm not sure he'd be right, but I'm curious what his take would be like.

    Some quotes from the screenplay:

"Clark! Clark! Why have you foresaken me?"

    "Alfred...it is...accomplished!"

Matt Reeves has finally agreed to direct standalone Batman, and Chris McKay of "The Lego Batman", wants to direct a live-action Nightwing movie.

So, if they do a Nightwing movie, does he show up in The Batman first and what about the Robin suit we saw in BvS, is that Dick or is that another Robin? I'm all for a Nightwing movie though and would love to see him and Batman kicking some ass.

Yeah, but did Batman specifically say Robin was dead? I know it was implied, but if there is wiggle room, Batman could just be pissed that Dick left.

Ooh, they could retcon R'as Al Ghul back and Talia and have Damion be the other Robin. Remember Bruce said to Alfred, "how many stayed that way?' Maybe Damion went rogue and they could fit in the Son of Batman story.

    Suicide Squad did.
In the beginning where they're showing the backstory scenes for each villain, when they get to Harley, her graffiti text file that pops up on the screen says she was an accomplice to the murder of Robin.
Now that it's on home video, you can pause it and see.

Okay, so it has to be Todd then, if they do Nightwing.

I still say they should retcon Damian in.

They're diluting their brand if they do Nightwing. He's too similar to Batman.

If they had him as a supporting character in a Batman film--where there could be interesting Bruce/Dick drama--that could be good.

Nightwing is a significantly different character than Batman.
Batman perpetually broods over his dead parents, Nightwing had a dad, and it was Batman.
Given that last one, you can have Nightwing bitch about Batman, and be a surrogate for the writers.
    Nightwing kisses more girls.
    Nightwing likes today's popular music.
Nightwing can crack a joke and a smile.
Nightwing doesn't limit himself to the bat theme with his hardware, so he gets to use ninja weapons.
There's a lot he can do that Batman can't or won't.

In the Timmverse, there was a good dynamic there and I can see that translated into a movie.

Well, perhaps in the fine character details, but their similarities are the things casual fans are going to notice. Both are night-prowling, crime-fighting vigilantes. Both took up crimefighting in response to murdered parents. (I was gonna say "Neither use guns," but the Snyderverse Batman has no problem bringing a hot lead infusion to the bad guys, and I think Dick Grayson has been known to use a little firepower in the recent versions.)
Yes, they could definitely do a "my (surrogate) dad made me what I am, and I'm a little conflicted about that."
Yes, and if one of them is Starfire, my interest would increase. :diacanu:

Anyway, though he's not James Bond, Batman usually gets a romantic partner in the films. Vicki Vale (hot!), Catwoman (hotter!), Dr. Chase Meridian (hottest!), Rachel Dawes, Miranda/Talia. I'm betting they're even going to give him a romance with WW in the new films. I think that's more than enough 'tang for a superhero film!
But we like our modern superheros dark and gritty, dammit! :diacanu:

I suppose it depends on what tone they went with. Something more in the vein of Kick-Ass or Deadpool could be fun. They could do it as a young superhero trying to get out from under the shadow of his mentor/surrogate father, overcome the sidekick stigma, and establish his own identity. That could make it fun.
That also makes him a bit more generic. The bat-gadgets do have some appeal...
    Probably.

I'm not refusing to see it or anything, and I'll reserve judgment on it until I see the final product. But if I were the studio, I wouldn't do it. Other Batman Family characters like Nightwing, Batgirl, etc. are best left for TV shows IMHO.

Rhodey and Iron Man are similar, yet Rhodey is used well. The Arkhamverse used Nightwing pretty well too.

Yes, but we don't have a War Machine standalone movie now, do we?

And why would there be? Iron Man's a multi-billion dollar franchise; why risk diluting that brand by putting out a War Machine film?

I don't know what the saturation point is for superhero movies, but there *is* one. And audiences will get bored with the genre if too many similar films start appearing.

Bats vs Supes cleans up at the awards. Not the Oscars, Golden Globes, DGA, or any of those worthless shits, but the ones that mean something.

Which can be spun into a good thing, highlight the differences and revel in them, even have Bats have the straight man to Nightwing.

Bats looking around Nightwing's base. It's well lit. There are posters, photos of Dick with women, iPod system - gotta get those product placements in: "It's... Well, it's not the Batcave"
Dick: "Kind of the point Bruce. Kind of the point."

You've scope there for an entire movie where Nightwing acts as a mirror to Bats, and it can be as shallow or as deep as needed and has have as little or as much Bats as needed.

Hell, no need to have Nightwing concurrent with the contemporary DCVerse, just as WW goes back, so Nightwing could stem from an earlier point in Bats career and intimate that he eventually returned to the fold as Robin and died. An uplifting, fun film of a character you know will eventually face tragedy adds pathos and a desire to see that story reach it's conclusion.

Now there'd be an origin tale for Bizarro. Turns out he's the offspring of Kara and Kal, and Kryptonian cousins shouldn't do more than kiss as the result is worse than a six-fingered, web-toed, dentally challenged banjo player.

End credits is Darkseid sat sucking his thumb, camera pans out and he's wearing a "I squealed like a piggy" tee.

    Wonder Woman poster.
I'm sure the final one will have just the logo and the title, this has a big tagline, so it's a buildup poster.
    Pretty though.
