Both the original series and Next Generation adult coloring books are both lacking in creativity. Basically each one simply offers the colorer a chance to color in scenes from the episodes. If only my vision of Star Trek was made.
For the hell of it, I ordered a Marvel superheroes coloring book online. Most pages turned out to be low-res grayscale bitmaps, squeezed onto the page in incorrect aspect ratios. Straight into the garbage.

I like coloring. Now. It took me forever to develop a remotely acceptable level of talent at it. As I've said what I hate is that the coloring books are completely unoriginal. Just rehashes of scenes from the episodes. At least when the original series coloring books came out in the mid 1970s, the few I know of at least had original adventures. No they weren't complicated or even detailed. They were at a child's level to be sure. But at least they were SOMETHING NEW in the Star Trek franchise. How dam hard would it have been for a coloring book based around some kind of relatively simple and straightforward story set in the Original Series or Next Generation era? Enterprise D & crew visit planet hoping to join the Federation Planet and Enterprise are attacked by ships from a neighboring world. Enterprise defends the planet and convinces the other world to agree to a cease fire. Both planets celebrate the newly established peace and both decide to join the Federation. There. Simple. Action. Opportunities for good coloring. Barebones story promotes the values of peace and cooperation that Star Trek loves to hype.
I get it now. You wanted a new short story that you could also color. I can see the appeal of both options. Existing scenes vs. new ones. I wouldn't mind a porn version.
