Hawaii Republican resigns from the party to join with the Dems, citing that all the vitrol was not what she signed up for. I doubt she'll be the last.

I do seem to remember this happening nrgpre with Joe Lieberman leaving the Dems to become an independent.

In lieberman's case it was probably good for dems because he wanted an off switch for the internet. I would say an off switch for something designed to be hard to turn off would be a really stupid ideas but there has been so much worse coming from congress since then it is quaint now.
