Animal rights activists are not stupid. But they have a tendency like almost all activists to take things too far. To keep pushing the envelope of activism further and further. IIRC there is a term for pushing an argument or an example to absurd extremes.

There are literally a world of issues for animal rights activists to spend their time on whether its the Ivory trade or factory farming.

But its more "fun" to get all worked up and active about something that has direct links to the wealthy.
