Yeah, I wanna see that Burning Dreams adventure where Pike is held hostage by the snakey dudes!! If they can work the final ep to be the "Spock nicks a shuttle and goes to Talos and sees the revitalised Talosians due to Pike's influence" coda (and get John Cho in as Sulu for the Excelsior encounter) that would be gold.
I wonder if they'll cast some of the other "The Cage" era crewmembers like Yeoman Colt, Jose Tyler, etc.
Since I am not 100% up to speed with Discovery, can someone confirm for me whether it's been established if the Pike stuff in Disco is supposed to take place BEFORE or AFTER "The Cage"?
Kurtzman needs to stay the fuck away from this and not turn it into a turd. I will reserve judgement for now, but I won't hold my breath. Please, please, please don't fuck this up.
Nope, not irrational. Star Trek 2009, okay adventure movie that feels more like Star Wars than Star Trek. Couldn't have just done an origin story set in the original timeline, had yet another villain hell bent on destroying the Federation with a flimsy motivation. Enjoyable enough, I'll give it a pass. Star Trek Into Darkness, they remade TWOK and tried to lie about it, nuff said. Burned. Star Trek Beyond, improvement on series, better characterization, closer to the spirit of TOS, but yet another villain hell bent on destroying the Federation with slightly better motivation, but still pretty lame. Slightly more burned, mixed bag at best. Star Trek: Discovery, Klingorcs, dystopian future, no optimism, SJW agenda, Mary Sue Burnham who's Spock's sister that we never heard about, man hating feminzism. Season two is a slight improvement, but both seasons include convoluted plots and shitty writing with style over substance. Fake, unearned emotional beats. Guess what, a villain that once again wants to destroy the Federation with flimsy motivation. Burned again. Star Trek: Picard. Be careful, this is a beloved legacy character. Proceeds to turn him into a doddering old man. Dystopian future, meberberries galore. Member Icheb, he's dead, member Hugh, he's dead, member Maddox, member Data, he's dead, member Seven of Nine, she's a lesbian now and a straight up murderer who's abandoned every character development set up in Voyager. SJW agenda again. Convoluted plot lines, boring characters, style over substance and shitty writing. Oh yeah let's not forget villain hell bent on destroying the Federation with flimsy motivation. Plot lines that went nowhere. Data also has a long lost relative that nobody ever heard of. Rips off video games, TV shows and movies. Allows Patrick Stewart to be a part of the writing process. Burned yet again. Sorry, I've been burned too many times by Kurtzman, I'm not just going to sop it up like a brainless fan boy just because they slapped the name Star Trek on it.
The show isn't even out yet, professor. How can I not like it if I haven't even seen it? The last time I checked, this was a discussion board where you discuss your opinions not praise everything Star Trek regardless of quality liberal land Trek BBS. I'm discussing the show and expressing my opinion, not pissing on your chips. I want the show to succeed. I want it to be what they say it's going to be, but I don't trust Alex Kurtzman to follow through with that promise.
Looking forward to this, I liked everything I saw of the characters and the ship on DISCO. But I do wonder how they'll treat two originally super-cold and super-logical characters, The Cage's Number One and the eventual Spock, in the same show without turning one of them lukewarm.
And yet, here you are, denouncing it because one person might be involved with it. Before you've even seen it. Do you even logic, bro?
Learn to read. I said I'd reserve judgement for now, but won't hold my breath. That's not denouncing it, that's being realistic.
well we didn't all THAT much of Number One in The Cage so they probably have some room for flexibility in terms of WHY she is "cool" (we've seen a bit of that already) They certainly seem to want us to think that this is going to lean into "classic" style Star Trek storytelling
Giving something a genuine chance, and keeping the whining you're going to do anyway in a little box for later aren't at all the same thing.
I'm so sorry, I forgot as a fan I'm not supposed to say anything bad about the brand. * Turns on brainless zombie robot mode* I will consume and praise everything Star Trek. I will not question my masters. I will not criticize. I will only praise. I will blindly follow. The writers can do no wrong. Resistance is futile.
Oh, you could break you past pattern, and surprise me. But you haven't yet. I'd sing showtunes if ya did though. Jaunty ones.
So what you're saying that based on a past pattern, you believe I will repeat my self? How is than any different from my belief Alex Kurtzman will screw this show up based on his past behavior and thus I have reservations about the show?
