I agree with TR and Zombie. I don't think Bush matters enough to the GOP these days for his endorsement to be meaningful. But he's still despised enough on the Left that it could hurt Biden.
Let's be honest, there's no way Bush is going to actively support Biden, and there's no way Biden would want that support either. If Bush endorsed him, it would be something like the Log Cabin Republicans: "This is not the guy we want, but right now it's more important to get rid of Trump than to have a president to our liking." Which is part of why it wouldn't gain many votes for Biden. Another part is because those Republicans who are thoroughly disgusted with Trump are already either planning on voting for Biden, or planning to abstain or vote third-party. And I don't think that kind of "endorsement" would hurt Biden much, either. Now if Bush were to start actively campaigning for Biden, and if the two of them did things together, that would certainly hurt Biden a lot. But I think both of them know it enough that they aren't even tempted to do something like that, especially since they are not in agreement politically.
I remember that thread. Oh the horror! How DARE Ellen be friendly with that bastard George Bush. And if you think that pissed them off, THIS one managed to piss off both sides ....
Every president has detractors. If they all "fought back" like Trump does, they would never get a damn thing done. Bush could barely count to potato but he at least wisely chose to pick those battles wisely. Can you imagine if Trump had his own Cindy Sheehan who spent months sitting outside of Mar-a-Lago or Trump Tower?
You know something, I can see Biden engaging W in a bid for "unity," but only if Biden wins the election. And I can also imagine exactly how he'll do it: He'll ask W to paint Biden's official portrait. Cue blathering comments from Biden about how not only will this be a "historic first" (since it'll be the first time that a Presidential portrait will have been painted by a former President), but that it will now become a symbol of American political unity for all time. (Nevermind that there almost certainly will never be another US President who'll have Biden's portrait hanging in the White House once Biden dies.)
But every President hangs the portraits of the ones he feels connected to in the White House. Trump has Andrew Jackson and a couple of others up right now.
You're right to a very great extent. However, he's a profoundly good and decent man and he did unite the country during 9-11. I'll forever be grateful to him for that.
Don't be stupid. They don't have to fight like Trump to fight back. But Bush literally did nothing to fight back against anything.
Unite the country during 9-11? For about six weeks. Than it was nothing but Bush was behind it, Bush let the Saudi's get away, Bush did nothing that day, Bush knew the attack was coming. Even now they say these things about Bush. Even on this board those things are said about him.
My take is the Bush Admin knew about it, Bush himself was beyond shocked it actually happened (out of his depth), and the Admin focused on the wrong target.
Riiiiiight..... and I think he was a Russian asset as well! And Dick Cheney's Weather Machine caused Katrina! Who's "they"?
