Just for the clarification for people who have sad repped me. I do not think of death as sad. We all will face it, and it is a change that cuts into everyone's life at one point or another. Garamet was over 70 years old and she seemed to recognize that.

Despite the troubles I had with her, I hope she was able to live her life well. I do hope that her end was not brought about by the stupidity of the world, but so many lives are. I have had so many people come and go in my life that I am just happy for the time we had together. I cannot ask for more, so I try to express my feelings in the time that I have because it is great that you were there. Even if it was just to get me riled up on some message board.

It is not that I do not care, it is that I do not think death is a bad thing. everything has a lifespan and dies, and if that is the case then there is something behind that boundary/bubble of life that we all must pass through eventually. The end of the mortally constraining universe that holds this body is probably not the end of things IMO. That being considered I do get that there is a longing for the presence of people we enjoy or even have just gotten used to.

I hope she went out having expressed herself the way she wanted to.

Today I heard the Toto song "99" on the radio. In the middle of the song I got a ticket for going 99 MPH down the freeway. The ticket cost me 99 dollars. Then the 80's song "99 Luft Balloons" came on the radio. A couple of hours later the temperature reached 99 degrees.

I would have honestly warned against that. If she was from the bronx, do not go back there. Go to the areas around Boca. If there is one thing this area of florida does well, it is to establish an area where people from the northeast can find a community they feel at home with, and live to whatever extent their health allows. NY is hard to go back to, even if you like it.

or 99 luft balloons depending on the version. Regardless why couldn't they just round it off to 100 balloons? It's like a 55 gallon drum - seriously?

    Oh god.

I just saw this. I have yet to fully understand it. Somehow, @garamet was one of those posters that I always assumed I would eventually meet someday. Silly, of course, but that's how she felt to me -- very real, approachable, and worth approaching.

Godspeed, and Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combination, infinitely.

Very approachable, indeed. She even had a meetup with Kirk1Adm and described him in pleasent terms; quite different from his online persona.

Well Wiki can be edited by any cunt, but Mike and MA are more trustworthy.

I'd say it was suspicious that Lubak was the one to break it here, given their history, but then he IS also oddly OCD over watching BBS threads for a self-styled Canadian captain of industry.

Same -- I always thought in the back of my mind that I'd end up in her general area someday and have a chance to meet up. She seemed like she'd be fun to talk with in person.

I've been watching for a legacy.com site or any other opportunity to post a message for her family. Haven't seen anything yet.

Breaking my self-exile to respond to this...

I'm very shocked and saddened to hear. We didn't agree on a lot, and I thought she could be a little unkind and unfair to those she disagreed with, but she was always willing to share insights and advice about writing, and her ability as a writer is evident.

    Rest in peace.

    Damn. Just saw this.

Not sure what to say. She was definitely a fixture here and at TBBS.

Her posting style could often be very irritating but she did liven this board up. I agreed with her on pretty much every issue but often wanted to put her on ignore because I felt like she spammed or derailed too many threads.

But she was always intelligent and unique and always had something interesting to say...

I may have to look for a copy of one her books. I remember seeing a hardcover of one of her Trek books and thinking, wow I actually converse with that person online.

Strangers From The Sky is hella expensive on Amazon. Burning Dreams might be a better bet - it's a damn good Pike novel and could STILL fit with Discovery.

In fact, one of the final lines of that novel is also applicable to this place - "And yet, she is here".

Do any of them come with signed lesbian shoes? Seriously, that might go for some big money as an obscure ST collectable.

I should have asked her while she was around. Lots of people have cast and writer signed collectables, but who would have something so unique and meaningful to that person?

She sent me autographed copies of the Preternatural trilogy.
    I'll never part with them.
Even if I needed them for one last bag of groceries, I wouldn't.

I'm reading Preternatural. Did you pick it or did she recommend it?

I sense it might be autobiographical in some ways.

I have the ebook version of Music of the Spheres if anyone wants one (in mobi and epub). It's vastly VASTLY superior to the horribly edited Probe she had to work with.

I made reservations today to visit Florida for a "business trip". I will do some business there, but I have a friend about the same age as Margaret who is slowly fading away with COPD. I've been promising myself that I would go and see her and husband, as soon as I could. Well, I'm going in a couple of weeks.

    Angela Lansbury's publicist?

You guys are her friends and have read and known her books and you didn't ask these questions? I know it may sound like a fan question, but maybe she had an interest in her.

This makes me actually sad. Because I am not her friend and if I was I would have wanted to know about her. And writing about angela lansbury would make me wonder why. Did she just take the work as a job, or was there more to it.

Now she is gone and I cannot even just ask her the damned question. Not as for meeting angela, but why her? That would give you insight into a person.

Does someone at least know the answer as to why angela. You don't need to answer unless you want to, but it would make me feel better that someone around here would have asked her that fucking question.
