So, I have an VA appointment at 9:30. Generally, if I leave a half hour early, I’m cutting it close, but I can make it. With Covid, traffic flows much smoother and I can make it in 20. Today, ... not sure what the delay was, but at 9:26 I pull into the navy base. That gives me 4 minutes to get to the parking garage, park, walk to the hospital (right next door), then navigate to the clinic. But that’s not the end of my woes. “They” decided to remove the guard at the gate years ago. Today, though, they’ve got someone guarding the parking garage. After waiting in a line to get in, Sailor asks me if I have an appointment. :rollseyes: no, I’m just going to waste several hours, thought I’d do so here. But, no. I just say yes. Then he says “great, just go straight up the ramp.” As he backs away. Really? I’ve never been in a parking garage before. I was going to turn and drive into that concrete wall!!! Thanks for your advice.
Sure, but that doesn't make it less frustrating. As long as she gripes here instead of bitching the kid out all's good. Now, I'd like to say something about the drive through window at virtually every restaurant in a 25 square mile radius from my house....

I would rather have a guard giving too much information than not giving enough! The reason I mention that is because my rant is the opposite of Jenee's. Let me preach on it: I have to drive through a guarded gate at an army post every workday. The contracted civilian guards are augmented by a constantly rotating group of military people. These guards have ONE JOB! It's simple and binary - Option A is if you want to see my ID card put you arm up and hold your hand palm facing outward toward my windshield so I will know to stop when I get to where you are standing so you can see my ID card. Option B is you wave me forward with a broad circular motion and point to the other guard about thirty feet further along the road, so that they can check my ID. This way a lot of cars can get through the very busy gate, but everyone gets checked for an ID from one of the two guards. But about half the time the guards just stare at you as you drive towards them with their hands on their hips or down by their sides. Sometimes they just stare off into space or watch the deer milling around. So I have to ask them "so....are you going to check my ID or do you want me to drive up to the other guard?" I don't want to sound like dick or anything but dayum....throw me a bone here! I'm not a fucking mind reader!
