Yes, tell him, so he can petition the GOP to redact all the useful bits.

Why would I be engaging with the GOP?

I wouldn't go as far as "engaging". You'd have to buy them a ring. More like "fingering in the cinema with the GOP".

I'm wondering that myself. I went to Public schools in the South, and while I learned there was cooperation between the colonists and some tribes, I also learned about plague infected blankets, turning them into alcoholics, buying land with beads when not just outright taking it, Reservations, The Trail of Tears, etc. We even learned that we were the baddies during the Civil War, and that it was fought over slavery. I'd never even heard of Lost Cause until college.

We're talking about thanksgiving and why it's offensive to indigenous people.

I memorized my textbooks, and read a great deal of extra-curricular texts that were complementary to those textbooks. I was a 4.0 student, high honors, had presidential academic awards, and was in multiple gifted programs. You need to understand that poor schools lack a lot of resources.

    Except for football.
    Always money for football.

Nah. That was not at all what was discussed. Everyone understands why indigenous people don't want to celebrate Thanksgiving. No one here remotely said that they should have to do that, or were wrong not to want to engage in it.

We were told that CRT should be engaged by children at an early age (educators overwhelmingly disagree) and that it was a lie that Pilgrims and Natives helped each other in Thanksgiving traditions.

And Beto O'Rourke supports white supremacy.

Oh, I understand it just fine. My own small-town public schools weren't exactly palatial. Everything was old and obsolete, including the textbooks, yet somehow the themes you have outlined did not escape any student who made even a half-assed effort.

This is not about history. It's about sins of the father, collective guilt and the subjective obligations that implies. You are doing very little to dispel that.

What does Ted Cruz and Gregg Abbot have to do with anything? Just because someone despicable thinks they can use a legitimate issue to attack their own enemies doesn't make that issue any less valid. The enemy of my enemy is *still* my enemy, they just think they can score points by associating with me. At the end of the day, I believe what I do because it's a core foundation of my principles. They believe it because they want to hurt someone. After all, to use an old expression, even the devil can quote scripture. That doesn't make her your ally.

Trans folks learn this very quickly.

They are the last two Republican candidates O'Rourke faced - Abbot is the seated GOP governor in TX that O'Rourke is challenging. They've both won their primaries. There is absolutely zero chance anyone else will win those elections. Either Abbot or O'Rourke will be the next governor of Texas.

Beto O'Rourke isn't a white supremacist, he doesn't support white supremacy, he isn't white supremacist adjacent.

Abbot very much does and is.

He refused Syrian refugees, runs an openly hostile government to immigration, actively promotes hate concepts such as the immigrant 'invasion' from Mexico, shut down daycares that helped unacompanied hispanic minors, and has sent the National Guard to the border for a longer deployment of such a type than any governor in history. He's made it illegal in Texas to refuse to assist federal immigration officials in sanctuary cities, and is actively continuing Trump's ridiculous border wall.

And you call Beto a white supremacist.

There's a chance that these policies can be stopped.

Lying that Beto O'Rourke is friendly to white supremacy JUST HELPS THE ACTUAL WHITE SUPREMACISTS.

I wouldn't have to explain this to most teenagers in America. But somehow Mrs 4.0 GPA doesn't understand it.

Yes, that evil man, Beto O'Rourke. The one that supports the Dream act, opposes the Wall, wants to focus on children's education, wants to make it more difficult to get guns.

Yeah, no. The enemy of my enemy is my friend is a flawed aphorism. But the enemy of my enemy doesn't have to be my enemy. He may indeed be my friend. We may be enemies of the same people because we have the same values and goals.

Beto wants to hurt who, exactly? LOL. We are getting back to the voices in your head time.

This is literally the guy who said that any religious group that opposes LGBTQ rights should lose their tax exempt status.

    https://www.texastribune.org/2019/10/11/beto-orourke-religious-institutions-gay-marriage/
Anchor Don Lemon asked O'Rourke, "Do you think religious institutions — like colleges, churches, charities — should lose their tax-exempt status if they oppose same-sex marriage?"

"Yes," O’Rourke replied without hesitating, drawing a round of applause. "There can be no reward, no benefit, no tax break, for anyone or any institution, any organization in America, that denies the full human rights and the full civil rights of every single one of us, and so as president, we are going to make that a priority and we are going to stop those who are infringing upon the human rights of our fellow Americans."

    How evil.

    Your ignorance is appalling.

You think in such simple terms. You'd think that simplistic thinking might lead to better fact checking, but all it does is let you feel secure in your ignorance. You're definitely a moderate in every sense of the word: you've adopted both wrong halves of two ideologies and consider them a reasonable compromise.

If O'Rourke couldn't beat Ted Cruz four years ago, it's very unlikely that he can beat Abbott.

It might be close like it was with Cruz, but in all likelihood Wheels gets reelected.

LOL. And you think obvious untruths are reality. But then, that's what you use, dogma, instead of reason.

Your rhetoric is anemic. I'm perfectly comfortable being against white supremacy - but I don't need to invent it where it doesn't exist. Real elections lead to real policies and laws and that affects real people.

Anyone who thinks that Gregg Abbot and Beto O'Rourke are the same guy is beyond reason.

As to fact checking, even your own sources agreed with me. I not only read them, I actually understood them. Then I had to explain them, because clearly you didn't.

The only thing I've seen in this thread that you've said that I'm sure isn't 100% unadulterated bullshit is the fact that you went to really shitty schools.

    Because really, it shows.

    Good for you.

You know, I used to know a guy like you on TrekBBS. Name was SpatialDude. Got angry because people wouldn't acknowledge his political brilliance after reading Schopenhauer, and stormed off because he was clearly unappreciated. You remind me of him. You don't storm off like he did, but you have his same outlook, and it's just really pathetic.

Anyway, I think we've wasted enough bytes I'm going to have to account for when I back up the server later.

Yeah, he's down by 8 points, so it's a long shot. So I agree with your assessment.

But the election is still 8 months away, stranger things have happened, and he is absolutely the only other person that has a chance to become Governor. It's either going to be the racist Abbott or O'Rourke.

At the end of the day, it probably won't be O'Rourke because he isn't racist enough for Texas.

LOL, sure. I think I remember SpatialDude. Back when I moded TNZ. Been a while.

So toodles. I'd hate for your next post to make you account for the 0.02 kilobytes in your next backup.

Which seems to be a pretty silly excuse considering modern storage capabilities.

But hey, I only ran a 32 petabyte datacenter. What would I know.

I mean, you can just say you are tired or upset or beaten. You don't need the lame excuse. :D

Oh yeah, it's nothing truly serious. I don't get to visit WF as much as I used to, nor as much as I'd like, but stopping in long enough to shoot the shit with someone who is so up their own ass they can see Uranus helps relieve some of the day to day stress I deal with. It's just one more internet argument that will never go anywhere, so it has to be treated as such. It took a long time for me to learn that. What I do in real life, outside of these places, that's what matters. A thousand angry Demiurges has nothing on the face of a smiling kid when she gets to eat.
