Georgia isn't the entire US, Steve. If that's an issue where you live, that doesn't mean it's an issue everywhere. And as far as dorms/rec center go, sure, kids want to go to a place where they want to live. That has nothing to do with sports.

That's a false equivalence. It doesn't require indoctrination for diversity of opinions to produce different results. And, oh by the way, even with our obvious problems, in terms of scholastic merit the US has by far the largest number of quality universities in the world. Most indices give the US 50-60 of the top 100, where #2 is the UK usually with 7-8. So clearly we are also doing something right.

Man, who hurt you? LOL. I'd say of the things we shouldn't be making movies about, casual hyper violence is #1 with a bullet. High school athletics aren't exactly dominating the box office.

The glorification of highschool jocks is unhealthy. This extends to disallowing trans people from participating in the sport for the gender with which they identify due to some misbegotten notion that it's not fair.

T said it better than me already: Cut the sports crap. It's not healthy for the majority of people attending highschool and college. It's for the parents and alumni that get their rocks off on that shit.

Glorification? And you go pretty far beyond that, saying that schools shouldn't have sports.

In some cases it's clearly not fair. Women and men are not equal in sports, and there's pretty strong evidence that men who are transitioning can also have an unfair advantage if they've had two decades of testosterone in their system.

Which is why both international and national governing bodies have altered their criterion for competition.

But sure, you know more than the PhDs that run the sports.

Funny, there's dozens of studies that show that's not true. And which is it, the kids are 'brainwashed' or the alums 'get their rocks off.'

Most normal people enjoy athletic competitions, and it's a good way to release stress and socialize, even if you are just a fan.

But 'normal' is pretty clearly an outlier on the internet in general and Wordforge in particular. LOL.

I'd like to interrupt this thread by saying that it's title comes up as this abbreviation on my home screen:

    "Trans activists failing to pe"

...which for some reason I automatically always read as "failing to pee".

    That is all.

    Carry on.

Guess I'm not done. Hi Dicky!

Lia Thomas won the 400 meter at the NCAA Championships this week.

And in this picture it appears the #2, 3 and 4 placers chose not to stand near her on the podium. And they included the #4 placer - an indicator they don't accept the validity of the competition.

It appears her fellow swimmers do not condone her presence. Which is not how this has been reported prior to this.

I suppose it's possible there is some other context for this photo. But it definitely appears that this is in opposition to Thomas presence in the competition.

And ironically enough relevant, as it's one of the few collegiate sports with male and female competitors directly competing against each other. As there is no known advantage in horsemanship.

Isabell Werth is the most accomplished equestrian athlete of all time in olympic competition.

Not quite. I was taught to ride from birth by my Grandad. His dad taught Sally Swift, and his father-in-law was a company commander in the 9th Cavalry.

But to your point, all the jocks thought I was a twink for being on the team until I was the first guy at the school to try out for the cheerleading squad, and then they were like, "Hah! I knew i-haay, waaaaytaminute "

    Just to summarize my thoughts:

    1) I believe in human rights, and that absolutely includes trans people's right to transition, work, live and love who and how they want, no questions asked. Absolutely includes marriage.
    2) I believe in equal rights, and that means everybody has the opportunity to try out for sports

But a lot of people conflate human rights and equal rights, and they aren't the same. No, not everyone has the right to be on a sports team. You still have to meet the criteria for the team, and that includes physical attributes, good conduct, and grades.

In this case, it sure seems like we have a transgender athlete whose body didn't take to the same process as is normal in transitioning, as evidenced by not losing nearly as much of her athletic ability as her peers did. This shouldn't come as a surprise, as we've long known that there are variabilities in body chemistry. When I was on chemo for example the first two years it barely affected me, I didn't lose my hair, etc etc. It also didn't kill the cancer.

So IMO it's right for the NCAA's guidelines to take that into consideration because women's equal right to compete in fair sporting competitions have long been established. And that has done a tremendous amount of good for women in high school, college, and professional sports.

For some reason women wanting an equal chance in sporting competitions have been villainized, as it sure is easier to apply dogma than it is to assess the discrete variables of any situation.

We've also established I sit on a throne of lies, Steve is Bobby Boucher's momma, and MAOHS might possibly be a descendant of JEB Stuart.

Further bulletins as events warrant. :D

Not likely.:D My Mom's side comes from New York City elites who were United States Cavalry for as long as there has been a United States Cavalry. My Dad's side comes from Scottish Highlanders who settled in the Blue Ridge Mountains and pretty much sat the Civil War out. Not much use for slaves for a Hillbilly.

This says more about the 2nd 3rd and 4th place holders than it does about Lia Thomas.

What does that tell you about collegiate sports?

Here's an opinion piece from wapo (free)

The TLDR is there is no normal. Get over it.

Here's the complete piece from Erica Sullivan.

Compare and contrast the above with this piece from the National Review.

You are arguing for the losing side.

Why can't we just have sports competitions based on people of similar height and weight, and call it good? Seems like a simple enough answer to all this.
