It doesn't have to be sophisticated.

Indeed, if it were sophisticated, it wouldn't work - the people they are targeting are really fucking stupid.

In the video of the exploding supply ship at the docks (very pretty boom-booms), what is the warship getting the fuck outta there in the foreground?

Considering then that it was likely also on approach to land troops/vehicles, it turned pretty damn sharpish! Would have made a tempting target whilst doing so... maybe the Ukrainians only had enough missiles powerful enough to take out one ship?

That or it had already deployed its cargo, but we haven't heard about it if they did?

I’m surprised he needed a tool at all unless it was for cutting safety wires on retaining pins or something.

A Ma Deuce requires no tools to mount or dismount. Just pins.

I haven't seen anything about whether it had a chance to deploy or not.

There is clearly a splash next to the ship as it retreats. That may have been another munition - or possibly debris from the first ship from a secondary explosion.

Considering the stories from Afghanistan (Soviet troops selling weapons and ammo to Mujahadeen) and what we are seeing in Ukraine I wouldn’t be surprised if they had their DShKs more secured than we keep our Ma Dueces…

Speaking of, as the Harpoon can be OTH (Over The Horizon) the Biden Admin is currently considering it an offensive weapon and not selling it to the Ukrainians out of fear of ‘escalation’.

    If you disagree:

[edit] Feel free to crib mine:

The Ukrainian people are fighting and dying to defend the democratic world against autocratic aggression. We need to do all we can. As someone who was combat arms both in Iraq and Afghanistan the stories and scenes from Mariupol are shocking. We MUST help the Ukrainian people, including from sea-based attacks. They need to be provided Harpoon anti-ship missiles.

Hopefully a sign that they want to settle, albeit on terms that are still likely to be unacceptable to the Ukrainians.

One of the stray thoughts that occurred to me about the rush to arm Ukraine (which I am certainly for) is that we have to be careful to send them equipment they actually know how to use. Yeah, duh, but sending them too much shit of any kind could lead to a lot of it "disappearing" in transit and ending up in the "wrong" hands. If we overwhelm the pipeline with so much stuff that it has to sit around waiting for shipment the greater the opportunity for it "disappear". @Ancalagon any thoughts? :chris:

Possible. But considering the tremendous damage to the first ship, it was probably berthed next to it and that's flaming wreckage from the other ship.

Plenty of pics from Ukraine of the smoldering remains of tanks with the remnants of slat armor twisted by the blast from the missile. It's apparently ineffective.

It is really not a good plan to bring a whole bunch of equipment into a country you are invading and then leave it there for anyone to use against you. This has got to be the worst invasion ever. It does seem many of the russian soldiers are trying to lose.
