You cannot guarantee any particular combination of people unless you are selecting for intrinsic traits like race and sex.

Recalling sitting with the VP of HR working on her quarterly diversity powerpoint, required by corporate HQ, with tables showing how many Black; Hispanic; Pacific Islander; Native American; Asian... (also by gender)... and agreeing with her that we wished it wasn't necessary to enumerate and categorize people so coldly, that it was a more perfect world where it didn't matter.

And when an office is 100% male or 100% white, you assume that's a meritocracy. Your robes are slipping. :dayton:

The only robes are in your imagination. I have assumed no such thing and you aren't about to lift a finger proving otherwise.

And no, another variation of "God is in every sunrise and in the smile of every child" is not going to cut it as proof.

I get your point. France, up until about 15 years ago, didn't bother about things like ethnicity. They had the attitude that if you were French, that's all that mattered. Then there were a bunch of riots by folks who were of Algerian extraction, but had lived in France for generations and were treated differently because of the color of their skin. The government quickly discovered that they had no way of knowing if those people were right or not as they didn't keep the appropriate records.

Then who represents the old or do they not be represented and we do away with social security and medicare, maybe institute a lottery system for culling the elderly?

No, but you're the only one here talking about guaranteeing any particular combination of people.

Please though, continue lecturing us on the details of a process you've made up and admit you have no experience being involved with.

Checked to see if I saved one of those for my portfolio. All I kept is a later one that doesn't enumerate people, but discusses strategy instead. It was nicer looking, I guess.

Look, I get the whole idea that folks should be judged upon the content of their character, instead of the color of their skin. In a perfect world, that's absolutely the way it should be. But we don't live in a perfect world, and how can we know what the flaws are if we don't keep track of things like race and gender? Take Ketanji Brown Jackson, not only is she the first black woman to be nominated for SCOTUS, but everyone else on the court is either Jewish or Catholic. She will bring a different perspective to the court because of her race, religion, and gender. And even when the court has a 9-0 ruling, her reasons for voting that way will highlight reasons that the other justices might not think of.

Well I thought it looked nice. :(
All the cutout people are stock photos, the group event pics are actual employees. I actually got a "note" from corporate HR asking if the cutout people were employees. I explained it was stock photos. Corporate HR told me they'd much rather if all the people in the presentation were actual employees. I told them I put the presentation together in a a couple of hours using stock pics. I asked if they wanted me to spend several days organizing photo shoots with groups of people from all over the building, interrupt their work, and maybe not finish the presentation for a week, or just call it done now? I got an "Oooh, all riiight." :jayzus:

I didn't catch (or care) about her religion. "Non-denominational protestant"? So "not as crazy as a Catholic, but still thinks Jesus was da bomb."

I love "non-denominational protestant" it covers everything from "still thinks Jesus is da bomb" to "lazily hasn't gotten around to come out as Atheist yet".
Up until I read "The Age Of Reason" I was technically "non-denominational protestant".
If we ever get fully taken over by theocracy, and SWAT-ys start putting a gun in my face, I'm going back to "non-denominational protestant".

Yeah, I prefer my politicians to NOT be religious zealots. Or religious at all if possible.
Also heard her called a Constitutional Originalist? (note: spell check asked me if I meant "Orientalist"? :wtf: ) - I'm hoping this means she's not 100% against the 2nd amendment. I didn't watch but a few hours of the hearings, but I came out liking her. And wanting to smack Lindsey Graham with a back of dog poo.

She's clearly more qualified than the last 3 Justices, who were primarly put on the court as they were ideologues and young. That combination precludes a breadth of experience across all factors of law, and was why all three of them got 'unqualified' assessments by the Bar Assocation. Trump's judges got that disapprobation more times than all the other judicial candidates of every other President in history.

If no one over the age of 65 can hold office, what prevents those who old office to discriminate and take things away from them?

The same constraints that prevent people who are over 65 from pushing policies that leave children to deal with the outcomes of those policies. Now, if you'd like to sit down and think about that, go right ahead.

"Non-denominational protestant," as @Diacanu put it, covers a lot of ground. For some people, it means "I'm a Christian, but most churches fucking scare me." For others, it means "I'm so batshit insane that even the Baptists and Pentecostalists aren't crazy enough for me."

If the theocrats make us choose a Christian denomination, I'll be Episcopalian. They're pretty sane across the board. (Technically I'm a Lutheran, because that's how I was baptized, but Lutherans have a wider sane-to-crazy range.)

If we get to pick any Abrahamic religion, it's Reform Judaism all the way. Since I don't share any religion's beliefs, I might as well go with where I feel the most culturally at home, and going back to some lovely evenings as a guest at the Shabbt table in college, Judaism is it.

If we can declare any religion at all, as long as it's established, then Unitarian Universalism and the Baha'i faith are pretty appealing. But I have a feeling that a regime like the one you're positing would ban them.

The knowledge that they, too, will eventually turn 65.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez will be old one day, but Mitch McConnell will never be young again.
