This is just something to do for fun, and it is a personality defect of mine I am willing to get a little pounded on for the sake of discussion. If this has to go to the RR then move it, but I am willing to have a few mean comments regarding my personality thrown at me for discussion in this thread. So I do not know where it should go, but I want to discuss the harry potter world that I hate. disclaimer over and sorry to the mods if it has to be moved.

Anyway, I hate harry potter. It is not about JK rowling either because this was long before she said anything controvercial.

Really I have sat through some fucking awful crap in my life. I have watched the room in all of it's glory multiple times. Al;iens 3, I liked it. Hudson Hawk, I can fucking quote it I have seen it so many times. I cannot get through the harry potter movies. I get so angry at them I want to punch the screen. I hate harry. I cannot stand the fact voldomort doies not win and get to put all of these people into a room and torture them for eternity. It bugs me. I can sometimes get along with rooting for the bad guy, but to not be able to kill all of these people means this is some bland ass pathetic evil.

I am going to try and express myself here, and take swipes at my taste and personality here in this thread because I have asked for it. I really want to be able to watch and like this shit. There is 8 movies, history, and a world of merchandise that I could get excited over and I am not.

It is not even like hating on star wars fans or rick and morty fans for being too pop brainless or toxic as ted cruz fuck pie. I liked the twilight series for what it was despite the fandom being horrible. even though I was team furry werewoof I did agree with emo batman that the fans were really off. I love harry potter fans. That is why I want to participate. The harry potter fanbase is fucking awesomely geeky and adorably cute. I want in.

It hurts to watch these movies, and the books are not better. I love the actors. The world should be awesome. Please help my broken mind to accept harry potter. I know I can do it.

Dobbi is why you hate Harry Potter.
    House elves are slaves.
To steal line from Red Letter Media "you didn't notice....but your brain did".

Also, that bad guy teacher that gets carried off by a centaur?
There's no way she wasn't raped by that centaur.
There's no way Hermione didn't know she was gonna be raped by that centaur.
    Hermione laughed.
    Hermione is a monster.
You didn't notice....but your brain did.

It's a series about a jock with inherited wealth that grows up to become a cop?

It's a great book/film series. Basically the Star Wars for Gen Z or Alpha.

I'll take a stab at this.

When something you just feel sort of "meh" about is all the rage, and people won't stop talking about it, it's easy for indifference to get pushed over the line to annoyance. Especially when it's from people you think of as "your people" because you normally share likes and dislikes with them.

For instance, when I was in high school, it seemed like all my friends were into Magic: The Gathering. (It wasn't all, but it was a majority.) I could not get into it. The game, the collecting, the trading, any of it. These were the people I geeked out over Star Trek with, watched the Rocky Horror Picture Show with, did drama tech with, shared a complete lack of interest in sports with. We liked the same stuff and disliked the same stuff, we formed a tribal identity in part around liking and disliking the same stuff, and suddenly I'd be hanging out with them and all the conversation was about something I just. Could. Not. Bring myself to care about or be even remotely interested in. To this day, if I hear something about Magic: The Gathering, I get reflexively annoyed.

I assume you run in nerd circles, which are the circles most likely to be into Harry Potter, and also among the most likely to obsess, to grab onto something and never stop talking about it. Which is great fun when you're into the same things and you discover that there's a group of people who will join you in analyzing the Dominion War or debating whether or not Janeway was right to force Tuvix onto that transporter pad, but annoying as hell when you don't personally see the appeal of whatever they're obsessing about.

(Corollary: I run with a lot of musical theater nerds. Musical theater nerds adore Stephen Sondheim. I think he writes the same three songs over and over again, that everything he writes sounds basically the same, and that his musicals are all far too long and groaning under the weight of their own overly self-conscious cleverness. If I weren't frequently surrounded by people who love Sondheim, I would never give him a second thought. Because I am, he annoys me.)

So it's natural that being ambivalent toward Harry Potter would lead to annoyance when everybody else won't shut up about it. Plus, I don't think it's a stretch to say you have a contrarian streak, and that probably exacerbates it.

Loved reading the books when they were coming out. Easy to read and fun, loved the imagination of it all

It was super cool to see those great books come to life in the movies as well. The movies were great, some excellent actors were in them

I don’t really think about it too much these days, I never got into the Fantastic Beasts thing. Definitely look fondly upon the whole thing though

Thank you, and it really does bother me why I cannot stomach Harry Potter. I think @14thDoctor might really be onto something. I honestly have not heard Harry referred to as a dumb jock before. That actually strikes a tone of hatred for me. It is a lot of why I do not care for Adam Sandler even though I like similar comedic styles at times. Having thought about it for a couple of days harry is a really stealth jock. He seems to have little to no respect for anything in the wizardry world either, but he is the chosen one.

I can be contrarian and rip apart something I love. Normally I end up going to the darkside and playing the villain in those cases. but I could not even get into going team voldomort with the potter series because they seem like even dumber jocks. That is what is missing from similar series I have watched like Little Witch Acedemia where the main character is a natural and special, but she also respects magic and is not automatically a jock. Even slitheren with what I think is jacob malfoy being harry's opponent ends up being another spoiled rich jock and I really cannot find a side.

He is meant to be the star of the team and he is handed everything to be the star of the team. Meanwhile he makes some shitty mistakes, tries to get along with his muggle family because they have some sort of status, and he gets people into trouble while really failing to do anything heroic. He runs away a lot and only really fights hard when he is cornered. He is willing to let everyone else fight before him knowing he is special.

Rowling really wrote a complete shit of a hero.

I feel this way about The Witcher.
It's watered down Castlevania with King's Quest's sense of humor.
People are acting like it's the next Thrones, and.....it ain't.

He is horrible. He lets his friends die before him. He fools around in the human world with worthless people while he should be gaining strength. He is often whiny and ungrateful. He puts everyone at risk without a care in the world. He is a terrible chosen one.
