Just like they are "reviewing" Jan 6 and the last administration? There needs to be actual arrests.

Has anyone made that argument that we have an unfettered right to any kind of weapon that he or she desires? I know I haven’t. Sounds like a straw man to me.

Oh, but screaming "you're coming for my property!" anytime someone suggests training, licensing or a 48-hour delay in being able to buy military-grade hardware is totally reasonable and honest and not a straw man at all.

    1. Why training? Do mass shootings happen accidentally?

    2. We've seen what happens with licenses. They become harder to get, they get more expensive, they take longer to process.

    3. If you're running a background check, why wouldn't it be instant? Arbitrary waiting periods do little to deter people who plan on doing wrong.

    4. AR-15s and such aren't "military grade" and you immediately cause the pro-gun side to close up when you suggest it.

That's a pretty meaningless gesture and shame on the Celtics for not taking a firmer stance.

For example, an NRA member would have a very different view of "common sense" than someone with brains and an education.

Be that as it may, this is a shift in how our society responds to mass shootings.

Fuck science and fuck the facts!

It's Paladin's and Uncle Albert's god-given constitutional right to jerk off with one hand while stroking their beloved AR-15 with the other.

One of the students who called 911 knowing that doing so could make her a target.

The bravery of these third- and fourth-graders makes the craven cowardice of adults even more pathetic.

Conversely, a well-regulated militia stood by while a school got shot up :ua:

Not so sound jaded and cynical, but I'll believe it when the legislation is passed and reinforced with the laws already on the books, along with the de-escalation of police budgets that allow for them to receive absurd amounts of military grade weaponry and then stand outside of hot zones where children are being murdered and do nothing.

It took 50 years and billions of dollars to sweep away Roe over the opposition of most Americans. This is the first significant sign that people are seriously angry about mass shootings since 1994, if change isn't made, it'll be because we didn't keep agitating for it. We won't get everything we want, but anything we do get will mean fewer deaths.

I would like to think that people were significantly angry over Sandy Hook and other mass shootings, even if the end result remained painfully status quo. But maybe this is me being naive.

You're forgetting what's happened in the years since Sandy Hook, outside of mass shootings. Most people thought that Hillary would be President, and then when Trump won, that the GQP would restrain him. And even without him being in office, they're finding their rights under attack because of things that he did while he was in office. The upcoming mid-terms are key to the future of the country. Even the Republicans are going to have to throw folks a bone on the subject if they want to have any hope of keeping their seats. Critical elections like this are won on the margins, not by sweeping victories. Any edge, no matter how small, could spell victory or defeat.

The Mom's Demand Action group has seen a massive spike in membership in the wake of this shooting, and even if we don't have any more as horrific (at least in terms of the number of victims), the fact that the police response was basically non-existent, and more details about that will be coming out, that's going to compel more people to put pressure on their lawmakers to do something.

Let us remember, it is not guns at all. It is because the killer wore eyeliner and dresses (which he did not). This is why all those women do mass shootings.

Since MTG thinks that dressing up like a woman makes people shoot up schools, and her and boebert both have guns and dress like women, then we need to lock both of those gun nuts up before they shoot someplace up.

37 kids died by drowning in swimming pools in 2020. ~100 a year from farm animals.

As to cars, we already heavily regulate those, but if you are proposing more public transit, I'm all for it.

But guess what, more people die of gunshots than car crashes in the US now.

    And yes, that includes kids.

But you don't give a shot that most of these are preventable, because you don't give a shit about anyone but you.
